The beach itself is very wide and nice. I liked the idea of rubber water hose with holes in it that stretches from the road to the beach so that sand doesnt burn your feet on a hot day. First two days it was quite nice experience, but on the third the water was extremely dirty.Looked muddy. At one point i... More

Crowded but filled with people who look like htey are having fun - families, volley ball, sunbathers, readers, sandcastle builders. I strolled the beach, watched the waves, enjoyed the weather. I understand locals go after 5pm. Lots of warnings about the dangers of being robbed - I didn't see any of that - but everyone is careful.

Of course this is a must see in Rio but if you're coming from a country with good beaches this may be a bit of a let down, the beach and ocean are dirty (rubbish floating through frequently). But the atmosphere and the people are awesome, volleyball, music and drinks all day long if you like!

Must see in Rio. Nice quiosques. Nice place to go out at night, some restaurants has live music and performances. Copacabana has a lot to show.

I stayed at the Copacabana Hotel which is across the street from Copacabana beach. This beach is awesome, you can catch futbol games, volleyball games and people building sand castles at all ours of the day. On Sunday's they shut down the main street and it turns into basically a big running / walking / biking trail, it's pretty cool... More

Our hotel overlooked the beach and the Bar and Pool area on the 20th floor afforded a wonderful view of young and old, locals and holidaymakers enjoying themselves in perfect harmony. On the public holiday, the beach was very crowded but the sunshine, warm sea and some cold beers made for a fabulous day.

The beach is nice, but super crowded and a bit dangerous. My recomendation is to go without any devices like cell phones and stuff like that. Although the water is very clean and its HUGE

On New Year's Eve we partied on the beach with maybe as many as three million other people. It was an amazing experience. We all dressed in white, which is traditional and the fireworks were incredible. Although the beach was absolutely packed the sea was not...perhaps the cariocas are afraid of dissolving in the water? So we moved through the... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
