I’ve visited the Theatro Municipal on several occasions, but my latest experience was very disappointing as the performance of Janáček’s opera Jenufa was cancelled. The performance was scheduled for November 2016 and I bought tickets from the Theatre’s box office in June 2016. I was based in Sao Paulo and booked a weekend in Rio (including booking flights and a... More

Going to the municipal theater is truly an amazing experience. The theater is quite old, and it mantains its classic archiecture style, so it is really beautiful outside and in the inside as well. To go there and watch a play such as the Nutcracker, or Zorba, the Greek is a great experience!

I was fortunate to be a part of a small group to tour and go backstage for a tour. it was really like visiting a museum with architecture, art and incredible stories about its history. is this a trip for everyone? no. But if you are into the arts, and enjoy the historical and cultural aspects of a city and... More

Inspired by the Paris Opera of Garnier , located in the center of Rio , the building is designed in eclectic style. Builted between 1906 to 1909 .

Full of heritage of brazil & they take pride in boasting about there country, good security you feel safe but i wouldn't require it on a hot day or if your time limited. A nice historic attraction use public transport or a cab to get here as theres plenty of them.

Located at the heart of Rio de Janeiro it is worth a journey downtown even if it is only to look at it from the outside. It has been restored recently and even if there isn't any performance happening it is worth a guided tour inside. if you go for a performance be advised of dress code: no tennis shoes,... More

Located just off a very nice square in the center of Rio this building was recently restored. It is worth a visit even if just to admire the architecture from the outside

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
