Woth a visit if you are in the area
Feb 2020
An OK area to visit, we got lucky and saw a capybara and a few monkeys. The main reason for travel to the park. Apart from that it the part is a bit mediocre. There is car parking available and also security peesent.

Safe, but without infrastructure
Apr 2018 • Family
In short, Bosque da Barra is a big trail among woods, with a lake inside. It is quite probable you find an alligator or a capybara along your tracking and even hear some birds, but it is not a place that invites you to contemplation. There are no benchs along the trails, so not recommended for elderly. Besides it, the recreation areas are very poorly maintained and there are few toys for kids. There is a free parking lot inside, but with fewer spaces than needed, thus you might face a long queue. If you rather go by bus, you will have to walk a long way from the bus stop till the park entrance. People usually go there to picnic and it is all. There are no conveniences or shops around.

Family park to Discover Brasilian Wildlife
Sep 2016 • Solo
Bosque da Barra is situated within in the city limits of Rio de Janeiro. The 35 square km offers a variety of things to do.
A afternoon picnic around lakes or in the forest, playful times with our family, but also the possibility to find Capyvara's, Agouti's, Monkeys, Alligators, Lizards and other species of rainforest wildlife, Also interesting native plants, tree's and flowers.
The park is separated into two parts, There is the family area where you'll find picnic area's (those are populair with the Carioca's in the weekends) Area's suitable to make fantastic pictures and ability to buy snacks and refreshments.
The other part brings you around the park 1,5hrs walk around the swamp area where you are able to meet part of the Brazilian wildlife and some great views over the swamp.
For the second part it is advisable to bring mosquito repellent and water.

For the wildlife the best times to visit would be early morning or later in the afternoon (park opening hours are 8am to 5pm daily).
Weekdays are also advisable as the park will not be filled with family's and the chance of encountering wildlife is more realistic.

In need of renovation
Don't waste your time. Rio has much prettier parks... This one is far away from downtown Rio and desperately needs renovation.
