House where Zweig lived during his last few months in Brazil
Nov 2016
If you have read any of Stefan Zweig's works you will be entranced by this museum located in the small bungalow where he and Lotte lived for their last months before committing joint suicide. There are photos, memorabilia, and his last "declaration" or will, on the wall of their bedroom. It's quite sad that this world-famous author ended his life, but he felt that the life he lived and loved during the days of Empire had been destroyed by the Nazis and was forever lost. So was he.

Helpful staff and nice opportunity to learn

The staff were lovely and helpful in answering questions. The informational videos were a good educational experience about the role of the Brazilian diplomats efforts to get Jewish people out of Europe in the early 1940's.

Very moving, worthwhile visit

The small house, in which Stefan Zweig, and his wife Lotte, committed suicide during World War II is definitely worth a visit. If you are in Rio, you should try to take a day for a visit to Petropolis, perched high in the beautiful mountains above Rio, and this is one of the gems in Petropolis. Interesting videos are part of the exhibition, which is still in the process of being constructed. Zweig was one of the great writers, humanists and pacifists of the 20th century, and his and his wifes tragic end can be felt acutely in this place.

WHAT A GEM!
Mar 2015 • Friends
The Casa Stefan Zeig is a beautiful and foreward-looking memorial, the house where the great author of the "world of yesterday" and his young wife lived in Brazilian exile and then took their own lives, in utter despair and "impatience of the heart".

Situated in beautiful, yet somewhat dilapidated Petropolis high in the mountains,= out side of Rio, the house has also become a tribute to the valuable contributes made by thousands of emigrants to Brazilian science, culture and technology.

With renewed worldwide interest in and appreciation of Stefan Zweig's work and thoughts, this is gerat place for remembrance and reflection.
