Form Summer Palace
Sep 2019 • Solo
Completed in 1864, this was the former summer palace of Dom Pedro II. It is one of the key sites in Petropolis.

Great Visit during Carnaval
Feb 2020
We visited Rio de Janeiro via cruise ship during Carnaval. While Carnaval was wonderful, it did make seeing the sights in Rio difficult. Also, we have been to Rio in the past and seen the major attractions. It seemed a perfect time to visit Petropolis and the Royal Museum.
Completed in 1864 and used as a summer palace until independence in 1889, this beautiful pink and white neo-classical building is worth a visit. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed inside (my camera had to be checked), although I did see many taking pictures with their phones. Photos are allowed in the annex and the gardens.

Worthwhile Day Trip from Rio
Oct 2019
In 1845, Dom Pedro I declared Petropolis his summer home. The Imperial Palace was completed in 1864. The neo-classical pink and white building is very beautiful and was used as a royal summer home until Independence in 1889. It was then used as a school and became a state museum in 1943. It houses 300,000 artifacts from the royal reign including the Imperial Crown Jewels. Unfortunately, no photos are allowed inside the museum. I really enjoyed my visit -- it is a very worthwhile day trip from Rio.

A walk in history
Nov 2019
Worth seeing it as it stands in the green of the grass and the trees in front of it as well as the botanical garden.
It is funny to wear the slippers but worth to protect the original floors. The government has been clever enough to recover a lot of pieces which belonged to the house before the revolution.

Fascinating Place!
Sep 2019
As stated before, this is a historical building that served as the residence of the royal family. If you are interested in history and art, you will enjoy this place. Unfortunately, photos are not permitted inside, but one somewhat unique aspect about this place is you must wear oversized flip-flops on your shoes to not scuff the wood floors. Admittedly, it is kind of entertaining sliding around.

Impressive collection, well maintained small castle. The Crown of Emperor Pedro is the highlight of the visit.
Unfortunately you cannot take pictures inside.

Excellent!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Very interesting historical museum. Unfortunately, it is totally no photos museum, so it is not worth to take camera inside. Check the weather before you depart from Rio to Petropolis especially during the winter time as it can be much colder in mountains and you may need some warm clothing.

Historical Significance of Brazil
Apr 2019 • Friends
Great historical artifacts of the Portuguese imperial reign in Brazil. Some the pieces are stunning. They have you use strange oversized slippers to walk on the original floors. You won't see any photos of the interiors unless in books, since photos are permitted inside even without a flash.
