Good insight into the 1800-1850 period and the Brazilian imperial family, helps to understand who is who... But the highlight is this: guests need to wear protective slippers, to avoid damaging the floor. And there are long corridors... Brazilian take on ice skating!

An absolute must for a traveller in Brazil. Very interesting historic building, royal interiors, Crown Jewels. We learnt so much from this visit. Petropolis is a great place, but not many tourists go there.

Visited on a Sunday in June 2017. Not overly crowded. Lots of history. Have to surrender your bag and cameras into a locker upon entering. No photos allowed. Beautiful grounds.

Beautiful building. A bit awkward wearing the slippers over your shoes (and strangely, not everybody is required to wear them). Worth the trip.

A worth-while visit when in Petropolis (120 Km from Rio de Janeiro). Get to learn a part of the history of Rio and Brasil and enjoy this very well preserved construction building together with all the furniture and amenities from the old times.

The imperial palace from the outside is not really impressive, then again it was only the emperor's summer retreat.... inside however, you get a good impression of how the royal family lived back in those days. The collection includes apart from antiques furniture and clothing,...More
