Very beautiful beach, in a very nice area. Best to get there was it can get crowded. Bring enough sunscreen!

AWESOME place, but Saco De Mamangua is the Fjord, NOT a Beach
Dec 2020
Like most special places in the World, you pay dues to get there. If it is too easy it is ruined by overcrowding and inconsiderate people.

The big issue here is the last 5 kilometers of the "road" to Paraty Mirim. Heavily washboarded and lots of mud. We made it in a rental car but if was rainy would be very easy to get stuck in the shin deep mud. 4X4 better, with higher ground clearance but lots do it in regular cars.

Parking 20R for the day.

The boatman would not go lower than 250R return despite dozens of boats and not so many customers. We are FIT travellers and refuse to go on tours with groups. This was true even before the Wuhan plague but all the more critical now. We did see the small bus so you can do it the cheap way for less than the cost of parking.

The main beach was soso and crowded. You must hire boat to get to the world class beaches in the Saco (fjord) of Mamangua itself. The drive first suggested taking us to a beach with a restaurant which we declined. We bring our own cooler with food and deinks and asked for the best beach (which means undeveloped).

Euginho Beach did not disappoint. Freshwater stream emerging from pile of rounbded rocks which meets the sea and very pristine sand , HUGE shade tree and restroom are only "facilities". and reef.

"They say" that 'Mamangua' is the only tropical fjord of the continent. I believe it!
Regardless, heading out there on a day trip on a boat is a smart choice if you're in Paraty.
Although our captain of our small boat (6 pax) didn't speak English, it didn't matter. He swiftly got us from beach to stunning beach, then to lunch, and back to Paraty safely.
It's a beautiful part of Brazil, and I recommend it fills one of your days in the region.

Saco do Mamanguá its a must if you go to Paraty. If you can, drive to ParatyMirim and get a boat from there to Praia do Cruzeiro, from where you can hike to Pão de Açúcar. Its beautiful!

Should be called Fast Motor Boat Ride

There were problems from the beginning when we were given the wrong info about meeting the boat. When we did get there, the so-called guide spoke almost no English and had no interest in talking to us. She said about 15 sentences during our time with her. We sped to the first beach, which was clean, and were given snorkel masks. It is a good thing we all knew how to snorkel because the guide didn't even get out of the boat, let alone help anyone. There was EXACTLY one type of striped fish at that murky beach. We floated and swam around for a while, but there was nothing to do but sit and wait for the driver to get ready to go. The second stop was a small, dirty beach with NO snorkeling. We were made to wait there hoping we could get going soon. The third stop was at a "restaurant" where we could buy lunch. We walked up a hill for a nice view, but we were afraid to eat anything except french fries because of the sanitary conditions of that stop. The scenery was nice on the high speed boat, but this was a waste of our time and money. We do not recommend this trip or company for anyone

Hike to Pao Acucar
Oct 2018 • Friends
We wanted to do a hike when we were staying in Paraty. We did not want a big organised tour, so we researched ourselves a bit. This is how I would recommend to do the Pao Acucar hike, which gives you an INCREDIBLE view of the saco do mamangua fjords.

We took a local bus (around 4 reais pp) from Paraty bus station to Paraty Mirim (around 30-40 min).

There was a local guide waiting, Mateus, a very friendly young independent guide. He took us with his boat for a 15 min ride and then we started the hike to the top. It is a moderate hike, around 1 h straight to the top. The view is amazing. We were the only ones doing the hike. We enjoyed Every minute of it! We paid 150 reais for the two of us. The weather was not amazing, but Mateus proposed to go around with the boat to surrounding beaches after, Which we declined because of the weather but I am sure that must be very nice (and all included).

We were so pleasantly surprised by the kind and very experienced Mateus, who took us everywhere so quickly and gave us explanations whenever he could. Compared to what was offered us in the hotel, he was also very affordable! I added a picture of his business card, since I Could not find him on tripadvisor. I cannot recommend him enough!

Excellent trip from Paraty
Oct 2017 • Couples
I really enjoyed this trip. I like companies that use local transport so was pleased to get the bus to Paraty Mirim. Some people complain about the bus because the road is unsaved for part of the way but it is fine. Then a short boat trip before we climbed the hill. The climb is steep but only takes an hour and the views from the top are fantastic and well worth the effort. Back at the bottom we had a very good fish lunch - not included but only 30 real.

Rodrigo was an excellent guide - friendly, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.

I would recommend this trip.
