This is one of the most visited churches in the Pelorinho (the historic district of Salvador city). The interior of the Church is known for its elaborate gold guided alter and Portuguese blue tile in the adjoining museum

Its worth paying the entrance fee to look around inside. Only 5 reals I think from memory but the alter was really impressive.

Really enjoyed visiting this church during my stay in Salvador. Usually you find yourself thinking churches are much of a muchness but this one really stood out. Very impressive inside.

It is well preserved, and it is said to be the church with most gold in Latin America, in my humble opinion, just another small town church nothing out of the ordinary.

The church is beautiful from both the inside and the outside, and the nearby convent is even nicer. Well worth a visit.

You need to see the fresco in the roof of main entrance... Breathtaking! And also, the amount of details in gold over the Church and the pieces of history... It's a must!

For lovers of art this church cannot be missed. It is worth 1-2 hours to admire the several sections that make up the complex. A wealth of azulejo tile murals in the halls and around the cloister; I loved trying to understand the message of...More
