If you go to Manaus, you can't miss the Municipal Market. The classic architecture is beautiful and it is a great place to see handcrafts and typical food. The vendors are kind and offer different types of fruits and other local things. Just besides the...More

We were Manuas overnight and on second day I walked out of the cruise terminal to the municipal market about 1/4 mile away. What a treat. Do not miss this market if you enjoy seeing how people in other countries live their lives, the culture,...More

This building along the Amazon River is a real classic and was designed by Eiffel at the height of the “rubber baron” years. The city of Manaus is like an island, located 1200 miles up the Amazon River. Like many old classic markets, this has...More

A very beautiful building and a great place to buy local handcrafts and food. This is no longer a focused food market since the main hall is filled with souvenir shops and local artisans. However, it's still possible to get local candies, nuts, fruits and...More

We tendered here while on a cruise. Since this is the first thing you see when you get to the dock, it’s very impressive and gives you the feeling that this is a lively city with clean shops. You couldn’t be more wrong. But this...More

This fabulous market, divided into different buildings, is a Manaus must-see. The thriving, bustling halls are crammed with amazing produce from all over Brazil... glorious piles of fruit and vegetables in profusion, busy fish stalls with sharp knife wielding fish mongers. They offer glistening piles...More

The stalls in the old building are selling souvenirs and other touristy stuff. It's the market next door, with the fish and fruit stalls, that is much more interesting. And the nearby port is fascinating, with boats carrying everything to everywhere in the Amazon basin.

This market is just like any other traditional markets you may see in the world. If you haven't been to a busy, local, and traditional market (not like a supermarket), this is a place to see. But if you have seen many like Grand Bazaar...More

This market area is a melee, most of the stores are full of tatty goods with no prices, and you're not safe in the crowd. The cruise lines tell you "Don't wear jewellery; don't carry a camera: don't look like a tourist." Why? Because you're...More

People mostly visit this for the interesting architecture. You can certainly take nice pictures as this market is close to the river. Inside, you can buy a few of the local products, sweets made from local fruits and a lot of artisan gifts. But most...More
