Quiet and peaceful

It might be small, but it's wonderfully empty after you've visited the more popular temples of the area. Very easy to find if you take the Enoden Line to Gokurakuji Station (we actually walked from Hasedera). It's not a "must see" though.

Maybe need to come at the correct time of the year to catch the flowers. Else it's just another temple.

Interesting stop along the way to the Great Buddha

Thatched roofs, a compound consisting of hospital, cemetery, and a delightful carved statue with the three monkeys (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil) fashioned after originals at Nikko.

Paradise temple!
Apr 2016 • Friends
Gokuraku (literally meaning paradise) temple is a quaint and cozy little temple next to the Enoden station of the same name. One of my favourite temples in Kamakura, as it has a peaceful and serene air to it, noticeable as soon as you step through the gate. Not very big, it nevertheless has all that a temple visit should offer. It used to have a little cha-ya (tea house) inside the premises, but I haven't seen it open in recent days..

A pleasantly tranquil place

Two minutes’ walk from he Gokurakuji Station of the Enoden Line. Don’t forget the small station. It is a wooden building with a 110 years’ history.

The temple was founded in 13 century. Once it was a large temple complexes. Nowadays, it is a little temple, surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. This is a pleasantly tranquil place. I was also attracted by the architectures, for example, the main gate with thatched roof, beautiful carved columns of the temple, ……etc.

Free entrance. Photography is banned inside the premises
