If you want to sit on the grass immediately below commercial jets taking off or landing this is the place to be. And the best way to get there is by bicycle as the Mt. Vernon Trail goes right past it.

Nothing fancy -- a park along the Potomac River at the end of the runway to Reagan National Airport -- but, depending on the wind, planes either land or take off right over your head. Prepare little ones for the noise. Kids may also get...More

This park is a small strip at the end of National Airport. It is used mainly for launching the boat into the Potomac river. Many people come to this place just to take a break or to watch planes landing and taking off. Other than...More

Maybe you live in a spot that doesn't get a lot of low flying planes and you'd like to experience the sight and noise of a plane taking off or landing. This is a nice spot -easy to get into and park. Other stuff to...More

You can get to this from the GW Parkway going north from the Regan airport. The exit is before the 14 Street bridge. It is a great place to picnic and watch the airplanes land. You can almost see the faces of the passengers. VERY...More

Jets landing at DCA (Reagan National Airport) or taking off (depending on what ATC has directed) scream right overhead at Gravelley Point Park, making it one of the most unusual parks around. The jet underbodies are so close, you think you could reach out and...More

Has anyone been there for the 4th of July? Does it get pretty crowded for fireworks? And are you allowed to bring beer?

They fly over every day. They will take off into the wind so depending on which direction the wind is blowing that will dictate if they are landing or taking off over Gravelley Point.
