We used Capitol Bike share (app) and rode from Arlington to Alexandria....wanted to go all the way to Mt. Vernon but there was no place to leave bikes there. Loved the views and the ride.

Great running route if you're staying in Crystal City. Ask your concierge for directions on how to find the trail. You can also rent a bicycle at one of many kiosks along Crystal City Drive and cycle along the path, which many people do. Nice...More

The Mount Vernon Trail is a 17 mile paved path that extends between Rosslyn and Mount Vernon. In town for business, my hotel in Arlington suggested this for a good location for a run. They were right on target. This is one of the nicest...More

Normally I'm a go go go person, but........ I spent 20 minutes standing in the same spot just thinking about the history around me as I gazed at the river below. The folks helping with the tour helped so much. Plus so much to see,...More

What a great way to go to Mount Vernon, we rented bikes in Alexandia then rode the 9 miles along the Potomac River, great views, great maintained trail, not crowed. Lots of places to stop for breaks and facilities, worth the 20 mile round trip.

The trail is well maintained and runs right along the river. You can get some great views . It's not that crowded.

My wife and I are planning on riding the trail for the first time. We live in PA and plan on bringing our hybrid bikes. Any recommendations on where to stay near the trail, maybe at a midpoint? We would like to ride 1/2 the trail one day and the other 1/2 the next day.

You can stay in Old Town Alexandria or in the Crystal City area. There are lots of choices of inns and hotels. Both are pretty close to the trail (just blocks.)

This looks like a great place to watch planes at DCA, is the pathway accessible from the Crystal City hotels and is it safe enough to take my 12 year old to the park to watch planes?
