This public park takes the visitor back into history. Visit the museum and become acquainted with the artifacts on display then visit the fort proper which is easily reached from the museum. After that explore the rest of the park and learn about the history...More

Fort Ward is a quality small historical area with plenty of green space and ideal for pet walking. Would suggest going early on weekends as it is well used by local walkers.

Nice, quiet park for a picnic lunch and letting the kids play. Entrance was a little tough to find because our GPS wasn't showing us the right place to enter, but look for the yelllow museum building to get into the park.

We live close by and often walk through this old battlefield and fort site. The walking is in pleasant surroundings and the museum is worth a walk through for history buffs. Periodically throughout the year there are civil war reenactments. Fun to see the period...More

This seems to be more of a local spot than a big history place, but it has a nice museum to learn about the history, and the park is nice to venture around and enjoy.

One of the ring of artillery batteries that surrounded and protected the Nations Capitol during the Civil War, Fort Ward, as reconstructed, still stands as a silent and dignified sentry overlooking the the valley roads leading to Washington DC. At certain times every year, Civil...More
