We were too late to go inside to visit, the exterior of the building and grounds are beautiful. Great picture spot too. Would return for a visit if possible.

The history of this house is outstanding. It survived the Civil War, Union occupation and being requisitioned for a military hospital. It really is worth a see, and don't skip the movie downstairs by the gift shop.

We enjoyed an excellent meal - the meatloaf was fantastic! The decor and history of the place was entertaining. The door itself told us this was not a 'usual' place to eat. Tables are a bit close together, but authentic to the period. Staff was...More

We really enjoyed the tour of this home, which was occupied by Union forces during the Civil War. It dates to the Revolutionary War as well, which only made it more interesting. Upstairs is some information about "Mercy Street", although the hospital was next door.

This was a really interesting house tour. It was just under an hour long, and the docent had lots of interesting stories about the house and Carlisle family, as well as a bit about Alexandria itself. Everything in the house is "no touching" so don't...More

At the Atheneum we were told this was a "must-see" tour. It was interesting, but we enjoyed other Alexandria sites more. The docent told information about the house's georgian design and the Carlyle family. One room of the tour is intentionally left so that you...More
