The display of Alexandria history is very nicely done. This museum is not large but it gives a good sense of the city's past.

We attended a wedding reception and were delighted with the place. Although it's small it can comfortably seat 120 persons. The place has a lot of character and the caterer served an outsranding barbecue buffet with baby back ribs, beef brisket, pulled chicken, mac and...More

Small, but well-done and enjoyable. I enjoy "local" history and this little museum is a gem. When I visited they had displays of costumes from the PBS' "Mercy Street;" the entire museum was a great tie-in for anyone wanting to know more about the experiences...More

We stopped by on a self-tour of Alexandria. We wanted to see the building itself. There was a free art exhibit inside, too. The docent was friendly and helpful, and shared information about Alexandria with us. Definitely worth a 30 minute stop in. (Especially if...More

A small art museum, with exhibitions of local artists changing often. Well worth a visit. If you time it right, you can walk in on a reception. Check their website to see what's going on.

The rotation of various artists makes this place special. It is a nice space and special events are very worthwhile. It is in a neighborhood so one gets to see a lot of history in the building and around the neighborhood.

There is not a lot to see unless they are having a special exhibit or some sort of recital. It is a lovely old building, not far off of King Street, so if you are into architecture of the Civil War era it might be...More

The Athenaeum is an old building by US standards, and worth a quick. Keep checking what exhibition they have going on. Visit when the subject is one of interest so that you see both the build and something of inter.

You will be impressed by the art in this beautiful old building. They also have other productions of music and lectures which are all free. Just walk in when they are open. No reservations needed.

The Atheneum almost always has exhibits, so it's a nice diversion as one is walking around Old Town. There are also regular lectures and programs in the evening, so check with Visitalexandriava.gov for information.
