I am always up to the challenge of being "wowed" by weird, awesome, colorful, spectacular, unbelievable and one of a kind artwork. Well, "The Torpedo Factory" offered so much of everything. The building itself, is a huge foundation layered in artwork. The artists are quite friendly and welcome you to come inside their domains to get close up and personal... More

Took a last minute trip with colleagues after work from out of state. Wasn't sure what to expect but worth a visit for local artists. Certainly something for everyone & walked away, unexpectedly, with some art that I adore! Plenty to see, right in the heart of the restaurant/entertainment district. Take at least 90 minutes to check out the 3... More

We stopped in for a short visit. Great place to see artwork and talk to local artists. It's free and you can bring him some new art❗

It's an interesting place to visit--the idea that it went from being a place where war materials were generated to a place where art is created is pretty neat. I like the displays on the history of the building, but most of the art is out of my price range. Fun to go window shopping though....

Not only the art from local artists high quality, but the setting on the Potomac river waterfront is a draw in itself. The entire family can enjoy the waterfront even if no one steps inside the building to see the various exhibitions. Family friendly food is there, as well as sit-down restaurants with views of river.

It's kinda like going to multiple museums all in one building. Paintings, sculpture, textiles (weaving, spinning), enamels, etc. There are (right now) 82 working artist's studios. I just visit the studios and displays, but my wife took 2 spinning classes (and now has a spinning wheel at home!) and is now trying out a weaving class (no home loom, yet).

We have been visiting the Torpedo Factory for years. We are locals and it is the number one destination for our out of town guests.

Spend time review art and speaking to the actual artists. Interesting variety of art to see. Enjoyed talking to the artists about their craft and asking about their particular pieces.

The Torpedo factory is a three story building converted into small individual office areas for artists to make and show their art. You can find all types of art from canvass paintings with oil or acrylic to sculpting with metal or wood to large arrangements and glass pieces and jewelry. Each shop is a different adventure and brings with it... More
