Quality theatre at its fonest

Excellent theatre at either of two venues. We have never been disappointed. Wide variety of programs. Try staying at the Martha for a truly special experience.

We've been going to plays at Barter Theater for years, almost always in the larger, more historic theater. This time we chose a play at Barter Theater II. The seating is somewhat strangely arranged but seats are on risers so sight lines are excellent, even for someone short. And it is an intimate space so attending the play there is... More

My wife and I have seen numerous productions at Barter and are always pleased , whether you choose the Main Stage or the more intimate Stage Two. Most recently we enjoyed Big Fish ,Mamma Mia,... My husband and I recently attended a play at here. This theater is beautiful. Not a bad seat in the house. The cast was very entertaining. We had a wonderful time!

We saw a Saturday matinee of Mamma Mia on February 25. We enjoyed the production immensely and were impressed with the historic theatre. The actors are equity professionals who sang and danced as if this was the only show of the day. Hope to make Abingdon a regular stop on our trips south and see another production.

Stage II presentation of Amelia Earhart - what a great job! The three actors kept you captivated for 45 minutes. Very nice overview of Amelia's journey.

Mamma Mia was playing, excellent!!! The cast was wonderful. All the staff and ushers were helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking and the grounds are beautiful. Sat in the balcony and very pleased with the view. A little warmer in the balcony but comfortable.

We have been purchasing Porterfield passes for the past few years and love going to the wonderful plays at the Barter. The actors are superb and the two stages put you back in time (in a good way!). The plays range from fanciful to thoughtful. This is a "can't miss" experience.

This is the second year in a row that we've made a point of visiting the Barter theatre when traveling through Kingsport, TN. We've been twice now treated to stellar productions. Big Fish in 2016 was fantastic. Mamma Mia in 2017 was simply stupendous. The music, choreography, and stage work were outstanding. And the crew and cast made it so... More
