...in a not so hot morning. My wife and I just finished a hike in this park. We started late in the morning (around 10 am). The day wasn't too hot or humid, but I would recommend you to start earlier in the morning. We...More

This is a shorter hike trail that I am used to but no worries there. The trail did provide some slightly challenging areas as there are stone steps you have to climb up. Most of the trail is in the shade and you have to...More

We recently spent the weekend in Austin and wanted to get outside and do some hiking. The Wild Basin Preserve was the perfect spot. The trails are clearly marked and with many options to make the hike as long or short as you like. The...More

Went for short hike with my two granddaughters who had been here before. Told me I needed some sort of water shoes because we would be crossing over parts of the river that runs through it. Not, even a drop of water. Seems the heat...More

I grew up hiking the Santa Monica Mountains and when I came to Austin I was looking for something to fill that void.... THIS WAS IT! About 3 miles of trail, not very long but a nice trek. Beautiful waterfall to stop and contemplate, and...More

The free park has a good little trail network for hiking. Nice views of the surrounding hills, little creeks, trees etc. Gives the momentary illusion of escaping the city (although you can't quite escape the highway sounds or views of nearby cell towers, etc.). Very...More

Very nice hiking trails. One was smooth and easy walking to the overlook which gives you a spectacular few for miles over tree tops. Other trail to waterfall was rugged with lots of uneven steps. The view of the waterfall to the pond was a...More

No dogs allowed in this nature preserve - so it makes for a quieter hike on the edge of the Hill Country. Even in hot July, we had good shade and the creek is flowing, making for some lovely views throughout the hike. Husband's pedometer...More

An oasis in the city with FREE admission. Kind of a self-run park, be aware that it accepts donations and *please* don't litter. Heavily-wooded trails with great hill country views and small waterfalls! Note: no swimming. Totally worth the stop, enjoy!
