The Contemporary Austin reflects the spectrum of contemporary art through exhibitions, commissions, education, and the collection. The museum has two distinct yet complementary locations, the Jones Center downtown and Laguna Gloria, a fourteen-acre site on Lake Austin, which is home to the Driscoll Villa, Gatehouse Gallery, the Art School, and the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria.

Please note: The historic Driscoll Villa is closed on Mondays and open Tuesday-Sunday 10A-4P. The grounds, including the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park, are open Monday-Saturday 9A-5P and Sunday 10A-5P

The grounds of this estate are well maintained and create a beautiful backdrop and surroundings for outdoor sculptures. We could only find a permanent map near the building, so we walked randomly through wooded areas, by the lake, and around the gardens. Not knowing exactly what to expect, we were delighted to find some excellent sculptures in unexpected places. Our... More

Perhaps this place is best experienced when you know in advance what you can expect to see and do there. You should know what the place is, and what it is not. To say that it has a sculpture garden would be overstating the case. The "garden" in question is better described as the developed/undeveloped grounds of an old villa,... More

Third time to Austin but first time here. It was great to walk outside, near the lake, and get up close to the sculptures.

This is a great place to visit on a nice day. There are trails around the grounds bordered by a wide variety of plants and various contemporary sculptures. We just visited for an hour or so, but observed others who were enjoying picnics and relaxing on the grounds. There were also a lot of children there, so it's a great... More

Great strolling, some mind-stretching sculptures. A local mix of nature and contemporary art. For a hefty art fix, go to the Contemporary Austin. For more lovely strolling through the woods and some don't-get-too-close peacocks, go next door to Mayfield Nature Preserve. Both Gloria Laguna and the Preserve are free. This will be our go-to place in our new city. The grounds are well maintained, the art is interesting, and the views are so peaceful. And, it is FREE on Tuesdays. All the art is outside, so it will be hot in the summer since it does not open until 11:00 am. Seek the shade, bring a water bottle, wear... More

We went to Mount Bonnell and stopped here first. Very close. Our Fasten car driver recommended a quick visit. The grounds are beautiful and their is Contemporary Art sporadically placed. We only had a few minutes to visit, but I would recommend staying for a least an hour to look at art and meander around on the grounds.

Such a beautiful place to visit! The grounds are well kept with many art pieces to see. The actual museum building is a historical home that was converted into a museum. It was a very nice visit. Don't forget to visit the fountain in the back area outside of the museum. It have coins from all over the world strewn... More

We visited Laguna Gloria with friends. At present this is a nice, easy walk with a few art installations but it is more of a nature walk than a sculpture garden. Plans to develop the site are exciting and promise to make this much mire exciting. Go now to see the "before".

This small museum may be a bit off the beaten path and not downtown Austin, yet it offers a pleasant and art-inspired creation of imagination for both the painter in all of us and sculptor alike. The picturesque landscape offer a peaceful and small escape from the highrise towers and pavement all around our wonderful Austin. Plus, there is even... More
