If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Great place to tour. Still Free. There are guides that start a tour every 45 minutes. Find parking for at least Two Hours. You'll enjoy it. Great paintings.

The capital grounds are easily accessible and include a very nice native plant garden as well as a couple of rose gardens. There is also a nice walking trial with large trees.

Planned a "texas day' for our full day in austin and this was our first stop Fascinating building and grounds the tour was excellent. Reasonable walking distance to our next stop the BSTHM. Don't try to rush this activity. Enjoy it.

We went early on. Sunday morning. Crowds are minimal. Air con was great - it was 100F outside. The self guided tour was excellent. An amazing building. We were there over two hours. Thoroughly recommend this as part of your Austin visit.

Been going there fom many moons. Definately worth the trip. The Rotunda floor and ceiling (dome) are way cool as are the staircases and chambers -- from the Floor and the Gallery.

I understand there is a 'quick' line for Concealed Handgun License holders only. Can all in the CHL holder's party go through this line with him or will he have to wait for the rest of his party to go through the regular line?

Sorry Elizabeth, but I was in Dubai, UAE when you submitted the question. The #37 bus would have taken you from your location to 8th & Guadalupe. Only a few blocks from the Capitol.
