Pretty Good Zoo, Nothing Special

First of all, I am anti-zoo in so many ways. I hate seeing animals caged up, and kept just for our viewing pleasure. HOWEVER, the Austin zoo takes in rescue animals only! They don't go out and remove a baby from it's momma just so you can look at it. They truly care for animals, and either rehabilitate and release,... More

The place was busy. Staff was courteous and efficient. They had some impressive animals. A lot of the animals were not available to see. Still a fun day.

It's hard to keep this zoo in context and not compare it to other, more commercial zoos. This is closer to being a very nice petting zoo, and for what it is, it's too expensive. I understand that the money helps save animals, so I tried not to be upset about it, but it cost us $52 for five of... More

Our family went because we were in Austin. It is smaller than most zoos, but still had some good animals. It is a rescue zoo, and there was a nice collection of animals. There were bees everywhere though which was annoying. There were lions, tigers, snakes, wolves, and foxes. There were also kangaroo, but his exhibit was closed. All in... More

Not your typical zoo it's smaller than most zoos you probably spend 2 hrs and see all the animals. Most of the animals during my visit were out which made it nice, they have a train which takes a small 15 min ride you see a little bit of the animals mostly it's just woods and a little view of... This is a really nice, small zoo. Great for kids. Off the beaten path a little in an interesting area of Austin. Nice gift shop.

Family friendly. Great for kids. Many animals that you are close enough to really see. All animals are rescue animals which makes you feel good to help out. Talk and laugh with a group of parrots, many lions and tigers, a huge Yorkshire hog and a ride a barrel of monkeys. Great for walking on shaded paths and wooden decks... More

In England we have world famous zoos, this is not in that category BUT it is charming. It houses rescued animals so do not go expecting the range of animals you normally see in a zoo. It's basic, but the animals look well cared for. As it's non profit making the money obviously goes on the animals and not the... More
