I've enjoyed coming to the NCCIL several times. You will find award winning illustrators' displayed in creative ways. As a teacher, I enjoyed connecting to literature used in my classroom. In the summer there is a festival that celebrates children's literature in June.

I went with my husband and adult daughter. Our daughter is an art major who loves children's books, so we visited for her benefit. We did not get to see the usual collection, since a special William Joyce exhibit was on display instead. However, we did get a feel for the museum, and it is small but worth the stop.... More

I took my 4 and 9 year olds. My 9 year old was enchanted with the stories and illustrations. She loves to read, and this place infused a more vigorous appetite for reading (which I didn't think possible). Once they noticed my 4 year old lost interest, he was promptly given crayons and paper to stay occupied while we finished... More

Interesting what one runs across as one travels these United States! A plain and simple little museum honoring artists of children's illustrated literature. Huda thunk it.

The NCCIL was much more than the typical children's museum I might have expected; as a fan of fine book illustration, I was thrilled to see the excellent level of curation, the presentation of book history, and the loving preservation of amazing artifacts. I only wish it were closer so I could visit more of their special exhibitions and spring... More

Abilene has manged to trap one of the premiere children and literary collections in the US if not the world. Not sure how they did it, but enjoyed it anyway.

A visit here will cause some weak reading children to become more enthused about that experience and cause most grownups to think very pleasant memories.

This is an ever-changing delight sure to charm your kiddos. Main exhibit is work of an children's literature illustrator. Many times the artist makes an appearance too. They host great festivals as well.

I didn't go inside the museum.... Okay maybe long enough to get the status map. This was a great adventure and a walk around town. An yes you have to walk to find all the statues but it was great exercise. Make sure you take water!
