One of Oregon's best BLM campgrounds
May 2021
I am a RV camper and would rate this BLM campground higher if I could.

It is a campground that was created for tent campers years ago. Website says 32' rigs max. Site #3 would only be good for tent or car camping. The parking area would be difficult to level. Water, clean vault toilets and garbage cans provided. Campground was clean and well managed.

I loved this campground to the point that when I returned home I immediately went got online and reserved an additional three nights for next month. Why do I love this campground? There is distance between the sites and vegetation between the sites provides privacy. Sites are large and shaded by beautiful old growth trees. Sites include a nice fire pit. The campfire wood for sale is some of the best I have ever seen at a campground and for the best price. I was able to get 21 pieces of wood in the cart for the price of $10 per cart! Hiking trails from the campground so no need to drive to a trailhead. Two beautiful waterfalls within a two mile hike along well maintained trails that provide Hallmark picture taking opportunities.

The trails to the waterfalls are narrow but well maintained. I describe myself as a moderate hiker but after the 4 mile round trip hike from my campsite to the falls I was TIRED. Two sites are next to the river and all sites are but a short 5 or 6 minute walk to the river.

Sites are reserve only. However, if you come in and a site has an open sign you are able to stay for one night unless it opens up for another night.

Lovely view

We came to check out the falls and were not disappointed. We loved this stop. The water level isn’t too high so you can walk right into the falls this time of year.

Chasing Waterfalls
Jun 2019 • Couples
After breakfast at Debs Cafe we decided to check out Alsea Falls. The falls itself is a very short distance from where you park, however if you are looking to go hiking there are other trails that lead to other falls. We did not hike but seen on the map in the parking area. Nearby camping is available.

In Spring the Falls are spectaular
May 2019 • Couples
We went in Early May and the Falls were thundering! It is hardly a hike to get to them - maybe 25 yards from our car? We then tried to hike to the other set of falls, GREEN PEAK FALLS on Peak Creek, about a mile away but the trail we found was steep, slippery enough that I fell so we turned back. We are hoping that we were on the wrong trail because it wasn't much a trail, more like a narrow steep path best for the young and in great shape. There is the Hubert K McBee Memorial Campground nearby but it didn't have parking unless you had reserved a campsite. The drive there from the town of Alsea is lovely.

The road -Alsea Area- was a little narrow- fortunately, I was not the driver. Amazing beauty - the depths & scenery = breathtaking. Well worth this adventure.

Hiking or Biking
Jul 2018 • Couples
Went on the Alsea falls trail head that turned out to be more for mountain bikers than trail hikers. We got 8.4 miles heading up the busy bike trail, having to often step off the trail to make way for the mountain bikers. The trail works it’s way up about 1300 feet in elevation gradually and you stay in a thinned forest until you hit mile 4. Then you are in a natural forest with old growth. I don’t recommend the hike for kids just because all the bikers and the need to keep a constant vigilance for them. The area is well marked making getting to the trail head easy. The trail is easy to follow. The way down back to parking lot is a old logging road.

This area has activities for any age. The falls are spectacular, the trail is well maintained and easily accessible for all ages. Close by is the mountain bike trail with all types of challenges that my 21 year old son loves. The roads in and out are beautiful but narrow and need to be travelled carefully, especially during work hours on weekdays since harvesting occur in the area year round.

This is a beautiful site to visit; whether it’s just for a day trip or if you want to go camping in their camp ground and then go hiking to the falls. Pack a lunch and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Beautiful, but well-used area
Jun 2017 • Couples
The falls here are more like slabs of concrete with a creek running over them. The area is very pretty, but it is also used by ATVs and is in the midst of an area that has heavy timber harvest, so the area, for us, had a vaguely molested feel. We aren't sure that we will return, but we got some pretty pictures.
