Our permanent home is now under construction, but you can still watch our carvers and painters at work in our temporary studio, and enjoy browsing our gift shop. We should be in our new home in June, 2017. Founded in 2004, the Historic Carousel and Museum is creating a world class carousel complex in downtown Albany that will draw visitors from around the world and contribute to the economic revitalization of historic downtown Albany.

We got to view a lot of the restored carousel animals and they are being restored beautifully. Look forward to a future visit to see the Carousel in action/

We're delighted that you stopped by the Albany Historic Carousel. All of our animals have been hand-carved and painted, so are actually brand new! Each one is a beautiful work of art. More

The Historic Carousel is finally getting a brand new building and construction is moving quickly. It has always been a fabulous asset for Historic Albany and will be a national standard working carousel and museum. As a project, the restoration of the carousel and the building of the displays is an object lesson in community spirit.

I can only say it was surprisingly interesting. For any of you who have ridden carousel horses it's a trip back in time. Unfortunately, the building I know near Monteith Park was demolished last month and we don't know if there still is a museum.

Thank you for visiting us! Yes, our old building has been torn down and the new building is going up fast! We are scheduled to be up and running in June 2017. If you are on Facebook, you can follow the construction on our page @AlbanyHistoricCarousel. We post often with photos and videos of the construction progress. More

It was very interesting how they originally carve the many different carousel parts. Not just the horses, but the benches and all the characters that are part of the merry-go-round. The craftsmen are casual and will talk with you (yes, you can ask questions) as to how they prepare each part and place them together. The pieces are all carved... More

Even though the Carousel Museum is in temporary quarters while its permanent home is built, I found it to be fascinating. Volunteers were friendly and helpful, and seeing the carousel animals--both completed and under construction--was amazing. I look forward to returning and seeing (and riding!) the finished product!

We have been to the museum/gift shop many times. It is fascinating to watch and talk to the carvers at work and see what they have been working on since the last time we were there. We are very excited that they have broken ground for the building, which is supposed to be completed sometime in 2017. We can't wait!... More

Very very interesting to see how carousels are made. The carvers have some talent and are very willing to share what and how they do it. Small shop to purchase some items and the volunteers who operate it are very friendly

The museum is temporarily relocated, but I saw it before the move and the whole history and techniques behind these beautiful creations are truly fascinating. They have active carvers creating the animals, so each visit will be unique. They have temporarily moved from the site to allow for construction of the final display and workshop building. I have seen the... More
