The museum is closed during the winter but they opened it up for us with one phone call the day before. Quite a trip back in time seeing all the cars spanning decades. Darryls wife opened the museum for us and shared stories of their travels across the US to car shows. Very nice afternoon!

We're not really into cars, but actually loved this little museum. A lot of cool cars that gave us that good "route 66 feeling". Attached to the Afton Station Packard Museum, which is also a nice place.

I am not so much into cars but knew my husband would enjoy this. Before long, it was him waiting on me to catch up instead of the other way around. We didn't find it to far out of the way and the drive was scenic. The layout is circular taking you around every car without feeling like you might... More

They may be strange and funny to you but they are definitely drivable. At least, I know that Darryl's are because I have driven every one. He enjoys building cars but gets the most enjoyment out of driving them. Thanks for stopping and giving a "must see" to others. More

Enjoyed the car museum and they were very friendly Our grandson especially liked the monster truck that was as you entered the gate.

Thanks for stopping, yes, most kids do like the monster trucks outside, no room inside, but glad you enjoyed the cars inside. Enjoyed having you visit. More

Nobody goes to Afton, OK by accident. You either go there for the lake and resort, or you go there to visit the Starbird Museum. He is called the King of Kustom Kars for good reasons. It's a little way west of Joplin, MO and a little way Northeast of Tulsa, OK. The Starbirds are down to earth, friendly and... More

Goodness, thank you for your kind words, and so happy you enjoyed the museum. We have tried hard to make it interesting to every one that visits here. There is a lot of talent within these walls and I see that you really appreciate them. More

Worth the visit, seniors are $9 to visit the museum where you can see about 50 cars many of which were hand created by Darryl. If you are a car enthusiast you will love the cars on display.

It's a little out of the way to get there, but you might plan on staying at the nearby Shangri-La Resort on the lake. This is a beautiful area if you're willing to make the trip. We stopped by when Darryl Starbird was at a car show, but his wife covered all the bases and welcomed us in. If you're... More

This unique place is about 80 miles northeast from Tulsa, OK. From the outside it doesn't look like much but on the inside is a custom car and hotrod lovers dream. It is a huge warehouse packed full of cars and trucks and memorabilia from earlier years, a visual history of custom cars. Everything is sparkling clean and organized. I... More

So happy you enjoyed the museum. Yes there is a lot of memorabilia here and some can spend 3 to 4 hours just absorbing everything not to mention the 50 or so handbillt cars. The building is a little deceiving as it doesn,t look big enough from the outside to house that many cars but it was designed by Darryl,... More

My husband did loads of research on this place, and persuaded me that it would be worth the rather long detour, so it was disappointing to follow all of the advertising boards to the middle of nowhere only to find a sign on the gatepost saying they were closed on Tuesdays. We just wished the information had been included on... More

So sorry for the inconvenience of stopping on a Tuesday. I do open by appointment on Tuesday if notified in advance. We do advertise days of operation almost every where on the internet on our website, on grand lake website all surrounding Chamber of Commerce websites, and in all Tourist publications for the area, etc. I understand your frustration of...
