While on vacation I stopped in to see if I could find some unique beads. Staff was friendly and helpful and owner has assembled a great collection of beads. I could have spent a couple hours here, but my husband was waiting. I selected a few, and then the gal working there helped me assemble a simple necklace which my husband wanted to give to a friend. The shop is set up for crafters to design and assemble jewelry, a really nice arrangement for traveling beaders who want to put something together on site. All around, a fun stop on a rainy day.

Unfortunately, we go with the kids / grandkids to do these activities every year (usually in Rodanthe). The Avon beading staff was very unfriendly and overcharged for the assembling (which we told her we could do ourselves). Just a horrible experience for a vacation day of expected fun. I suggest to travel the twelve miles further north and go to the Rodanthe beading place.

Travel to another if you want a good experience. It is very very overpriced. The beads are not bad but even if you put together the piece yourself, she will charge you an outrageous amount for "service". The woman is rude and will not even explain her fees. We went to a similar bead shop in Rodanthe and have always had a great experience there and no problem with pricing. Travel a few miles and go to another bead shop.

It is possible that this location is associated somehow with Uglie Mug, where we had a bad experience. However, Glass Bead is a great place. You can choose elements of a new piece of jewelry and have an employee assemble it for you at low cost. You also can get a coffee or tea. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the shop is laid out well.

Ok, new to beading. The shop has alot of beads. Some cheap, some really overpriced (especially after learning the craft store has the same ones for a quarter of the price). It was fun going with my daughter though and spending time making something there. Once completing one bracelet for me and one for her, we had the girl there put clips on them and complete them since I didn't bring any tools with me on vacation.... she rings us up for $45.00 .... I almost had a heart attack. I didn't question anything, but I know what beads and clips cost... they charge alot just to put the clips on. Takes 2 minutes. The day after, mine was too lose, so I went back and asked her to redo it for me. Then asked for some string for the girls to make she'll necklaces and a clip. Then, that came to $12. I'm not a professional beader, but it's easy to make your own, I suggest just buying what you like and assembling on your own. It's a shame, because the concept is nice, just like pottery place, but cost way too much for the experience. Assembly if not difficult should be included. Sorry Charlie ;)
