We booked a sail for our trip a couple weeks in advance. The day we are driving to the Outer Banks, I get a text (not even a phone call) saying they decided not to open the season until May. Granted it said due to maintenance and weather (but it is looking like good weather during our time there), but how poor of customer service to wait this late to notify me. Now it is most likely too late to make other plans and I have three very disappointed kids. …

I am so very sorry we found it necessary to cancel your cruise which disappointed your children. Canceling a cruise is not something we take lightly or that is a usual occurrence with Avon Harbor Sailing. Usually a cruise is not canceled but moved to the next evening and this is only due to Mother nature/ weather being inclement. I had hoped that contacting you before you arrived would allow ample time to book elsewhere. Your cruise was booked early and very early in season on The OBX. Was to be our first of the season. Safety of our guests and passengers is of utmost importance to us. Upon spring safety inspection and de-winterizing the sailboat prior to putting her in the water - a few minor issues were discovered that left unattended could have become larger safety issues. That along with the high winds and storm forecasted for that week led us to the unavoidable unfortunate decision to delay putting the sailboat in and the need to cancel. Guest satisfaction is also very important to us- so-I would like to offer to you and your family a Sail Cruise FREE of charge with us the next time you are visiting the island. Please just give us a call on your next visit.
