Overview
More
Roxas Boulevard is a popular waterfront promenade in Manila in the Philippines. The boulevard, which runs along the shores of Manila Bay, is well-known for its sunsets and stretch of coconut trees. The divided roadway has become a trademark of Philippine tourism, famed for its yacht club, hotels, restaurants, commercial buildings and parks. Originally called Cavite Boulevard, it was renamed Dewey Boulevard in honor of the American Admiral George Dewey, who under his command defeated the Spanish navy in the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. The boulevard was again renamed to Heiwa Boulevard in late 1941 during Japanese Home Rule and Roxas Boulevard in the 1960s to honor President Manuel Roxas, the fifth president of the Republic of Philippines. The arcing road runs in a north-south direction from Rizal Park in Manila and ends in Parañaque at the intersection of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Road. However, the most popular points along the Boulevard can be found along a 3-kilometer stretch, whose endpoints are bounded by Rizal Park and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In between those two points can be found the Manila Yacht Club, Manila Ocean Park and the US Embassy.

On our recent visit to Manila, one of the pleasant surprises was the improved conditions of Roxas Boulevard. As recently as 8-10 years ago, it was no fun at all to drive or walk along Roxas Blvd. It was a dirty, noisy area with notoriously...More

Along the Manila Bay runs Roxas Boulevard. Heavy traffic, slow cycles where there are lights, makes a short journey, long and tedious. It would help if drivers exercised more courteous behaviour and traffic managed better. Really terrible during Christmas and Easter.

As I stayed at HOTEL H2O, I often used this street. Almost always crowded. But in the morning it was nice for jogging, especially around the US Embassy.

The Roxas Boulevard has a terrible traffic. In all crossroads there are small kids with out shoes and sometimes even without clothes, begging for some pesos or something to eat. The boardwalk could have been pleasant if it wasn't for the noise and bad smell...More

Growing up near Roxas Boulevard, I remember walking often to the baywalk to look at the sunset as well as to enjoy the breeze. But with traffic the way it is, I don't think that's such a good idea now. They are trying to maintain...More
