About
Known to locals as Pasar Seni, this bazaar houses more than 350 shops retailing traditional goods, art collectibles, local handicrafts, and more. The three zones—Lorong Melayu, Lorong Cina and Lorong India—feature stalls that highlight the three main races in Malaysia. Experience the different cultures and heritage as you browse through the shops. You can also snag unique souvenirs like Borneo pearls, Wau Bulan (a traditional Malay kite), and the quintessential Batik for keepsakes. When hungry, don’t miss trying local hawker fare like nasi kandar, goreng pisang, or ais kacang for a much-needed energy boost. The market is also within walking distance from Petaling Street. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful art and culture
My childhood haunt with many of us fascinated by the artistic and cultural richness Malaysia has to offer under 1 roof. The architecture of the building itself is worth the visit. In it many stalls including the Penang Pewter just as good as the Selangor Pewter. Many kerosene, kites, bags hand crafter and made with utmost skill and talent. The paintings are amazing. You could have your portrait painted for as little as $250.

    A Little of Everything
From its original use as a wet market when originally opened to a Malaysian cultural center, Central Market was transformed. Inside one can find a variety of local handicraft stores including many selling batik clothing. Most of the items seems geared towards the tourists but interesting nonetheless. A food court and food stands promoted different types of Malaysian food. A photo collection on the second floor provided a brief history of the Central Market to the present. If anything worth a stop as it was air conditioned inside and quiet.
Yes, you are right, we started as a wet market but today we are the center of Malaysian cultural, arts, souvenir, and crafts. As our shops sells variety of local traditional items that can be bought as a gift or souvenir for tourist and the local people. Our food court and restaurant served various type of food but majority of the store serve Malaysian local dishes. As you mention, the photo collection and history of Central Market on the Mezzanine floor is actually our KL Life Story exhibition. It consists the history of Kuala Lumpur and also Central Market itself and it is open to public to enter for free. Thank you for visited Central Market Kuala Lumpur, we glad your trip here is a pleasant one and we hope to see you again.

    Good market to visit
Visited as some markets are usually a good place for trinkets, clothing etc. This was a good clean and friendly market with all the stalls you would expect. Some touristy based ones with some more authentic clothing at good prices if you walk around. Easy to get to with public transport nearby.
Thank you for visited Central Market Kuala Lumpur, we are very delight to read such positive review like this, as we want to improve our facilities and services to our visitors. We are pleased to know that your trip here is a good trip. And we would like to welcome you again here as our new attraction in Central Market Kuala Lumpur called ‘Pasar Besar’ will be open soon to public. It is a Malaysian market place therefore we would love for you to experience it.

    Overrated market
I expected more. Stopped by this market in the morning and again mid afternoon another day. Both times, the market was rather empty and the stalls were all just touristy knick knacks....worth a look and quick walk through but don't expect too much.
Hi Markitiki, thank you for your review and feedback. Yes, for this week market it is more targeted for tourists because the market was meant to introduce Malaysians food to them. It is not as lively as our usual weekend market, but in the future, we will be having more interesting and exciting market at Central Market Kuala Lumpur. Do keep up with our social media to know more about this exciting market, hope to see you again. Take care!

    Worth a visit
My main aim to visit this market was because of the fish spa. Being in the area, it seemed the best opportunity to have my feet tickled by these tiny fish. Very little has changed since my last visit, but it is always worth a look. I did find though, that the restaurants upstairs closed earlier than what I thought they would. Perhaps it was just as well that there were plenty of restaurants outside to choose from for my evening meal.
Hello there, thank you for your review, we glad to know that you had a good experience during your trip to Central Market Kuala Lumpur. Thank you for visited our Fish Spa, it is one of the attractions that we have here for tourists and local visitors. Meanwhile for the restaurants upstairs we are now operating in new operation hours which is from 10am-10pm. So, if you coming back again next time you can plan your trip to taste the foods available in Central Market Kuala Lumpur. Hope to see you coming back here soon.

    Not really that interesting
Alright not the best, not a lot of quality or tat, just local markets reminded me of a uk Sunday market. Bit of a waste of time really. Alright for a walk through and a cheap spot of lunch.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear that your recent visit was not up to your expectations. We strive to bring in tenants and vendors whom offers a wide variety of products, but sometimes they may fall short. We believe they will appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as they make improvements to their inventory.

    Must Visit
An excellent place to experience "street shopping" in closed area with cooling systems. Good variety of shops and food options. Can do all your souvenir shopping and more when here. There was a band giving live performance, Christmas spirit was all around. All in all, will go back here every time I am in KL.
Thank you soo much for your positive feedback, your satisfaction is what drives us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back again to Central Market Kuala Lumpur. Have a great day ahead.

    Recommended place for souvenir shopping
During my interaction with the taxi drivers and hotel staff, everyone recommended to go to Central Market for souvenir shopping. Now I can surely say that they were right!! Its a kind of a small shopping plaza with almost all the shops selling local handicrafts and souvenirs. The prices are also reasonable. It also has a food court and a couple of restaurants which serve good food. I would definitely recommend a visit to this place.
Thank you soo much for your positive feedback. We are glad that your trip here is a pleasant one, and we'll continue to work hard to provide our customers with more excellent experience. Thanks for taking the time to write this review, it means a lot to us. Cheers!

    Good for your KL souvenirs.
Central Market is located in the Chinatown area of KL. This is a fairly average mall but great for purchasing souvenirs of KL. 2 levels of similar items with reasonable fixed and haggle style prices. Worth a look if you’re visiting the neighbouring Petaling Street mall. It’s about 4 mins walk. Opening time is 10am.
We appreciate your positive feedback. And glad that you have a good time during your visit, we will continue to work hard and improve our services.

Central Market is situated at the heart of Kuala Lumpur; easily accessible by private and public transportations. There are buses and taxis plying through, and there's also a Mass Rapid Transit terminal in the area.

A place that's art-centric, selling arts and crafts for locals and tourists alike. From paintings to keychains, from hand-crafted figurines to traditional clothings.

Eateries are available on the second floor, but the price is a bit expensive.

Fully-airconditioned and clean, this is a nice respite from the hot and humid weather outside.

Prices are 'fixed', but you may technically haggle a bit. Feign your interest by leaving the shop, and be ready to have the sellers pulling you over and whispering 'better price'. But given that this is a tourist area, the price would still be on a higher side. All in all, a very convenient place to purchase souvenirs for you to bring back home.

I was sooo glad to visit such an old place like the central market as it was constructed since 1888 ! It is two floors only but the ground floor is full of great souvenir retailers that buy souvenirs with reasonable prices ! I bought most of my magnets and key chains from their shops . The toilet there was so clean but chargeable u should pay few ringgit to enter so no problem for me . I recommend u to go there and china town at the same time because the central market is so small and u can stay for few hours not the whole day and also because it is from a walking distance from china town so save your day go both at the same day . They both are worth the visit 👍🏻

This must be the best market experience ever! Shopping for bargains in cool comfort and no feelings of being hot and can’t be bothered. I loved it.I think the city administrators had a great idea when they decided to put the stalls under a roof and add aircon But if this modernity is too much for you there is a regular market close by. Either way be prepared for wonderful buys and don’t forget to bargain lah!

Plenty of stuff to sift through here but like anything, once you’ve seen a few vendors you’ve seen most. Prices are very expensive for Malaysia also so make sure you barter everything down. For example T-Shirts bought at a local community market cost us 5RM each and at central market they were asking 40RM for a kids t-shirt. Do some homework before purchasing.

Tourists in search for souvenirs and local products would surely want to visit this place. Be ready to haggle though, as prices are not fixed and it is an adventure to guess how much the vendor is willing to part with his goods. Bags, T-shirts, scarves, local knickknacks, ladies clothes and Beryl chocolates are among the products that are available in the market. Since I was just in KL for a short visit, I was able to save precious time by buying most of my goods here.

This more than 100 years old building featured an Art Deco architecture which is a rare sighting in this country. This building has aged well over the years. Even as a local, I always find it captivating every time I walk around and inside this building. The upcoming pedestrian bridge (soon to be opened) on the other side of the structure will hopefully bring in more foot traffic into the mall in near future.

Most shops sell local handicrafts and souvenirs but some also sells imported crafts from India & Pakistan which is still beautiful, nonetheless. Be sure to explore the narrow little alley where you will discover some great finds.

There are a few food joints on the upper floor with some serving beer in the menu for anyone that is looking for a place to sit in the area to enjoy a bottle or two.

Compared to other historical markets in SE Asia, KL's Central Market is very well maintained, clean, and air conditioned.

There's a nice food quarter / mini hawker center where you can try some local things, but that's probably the reason you'd go because the shops leave a lot to be desired.

Mostly just the same tourist knick knacks I'm sure you can find all over the place (and in the nearby Chinatown). Also a lot of the market was either closed or under construction when we went, with covid its hard to tell how many of the closed shops were permanently shuttered. The prices are for the most part fair but don't expect to find anything too unique or handmade.

Overall it's not a must do while in the city if you're pressed for time, but worth checking out if you're near the Chinatown area.

The to-go place for local handicrafts and souvenirs. If you want generic fake branded stuff, Chinatown is a few blocks away, this place is more for artisan knick-knacks, art, and more local souvenir stuff. Worth checking out

This market is locally known as Pasar Seni. This is basically an handicrafts market which has cluster of shops which are selling local handicrafts, art work and souvenirs. Not many people know that this market is declared a Heritage Site due to its old styling. One would need at least 3 to 4 hours to visit all the shops in the complex which includes building as well as the shops outside the complex. Various food options also available outside or within the complex in food court at second floor. Though most of the shops serving non vegetarian food. Enjoy fresh fruit juice which is served in a no. of shops within the complex as well as outside the complex. Overall a must visit if you are in Kuala Lumpur even for a day.
