Dotonbori is a large pedestrian area in downtown Osaka. The area is filled with restaurants, retail outlets and amusement facilities, very happening especially at night. Do try the ubiquitous Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki available there.

Went during the day and did not experience the neon lights. It was very touristy, filled with visiting Chinese tour groups. The only good about it was lots of traditional Japanese restaurants and street snacks. It is difficult to know which are the good ones...More

You have the impression that millions of japanese come together here to stroll around , to shop and to hang out...Many good shopping opportunities , and some really good restaurants , even though somewhat pricey....

This district is rich in bright lights and bustling atmosphere. A long stretch of all types of shops (all the big brands) as well as local fare and every type of restaurant. Obviously best to experience at night. Enjoy.

This place is awesome as it is as famous and religious as Yamato for Japanese. This river have some cultural relation to newly Married Japs. Then place is turns into heaven at night-rather than day.

I don’t see why not! It’s very busy there, like the main tourist hub. Things tended to shut down around 10pm though in the back streets, maybe earlier.
