It is big complex of temples. It's nice to visit this place, especially if you are fun of Japanese culture.

Temple grounds were full of visitors but every where was so busy with trucks and deliveries and stalls being erected it wasn't a very peaceful or spiritual place. Photo opportunities spoiled by the hustle and bustle and indeed by repair works and scaffolding on the main building. Away from the crowds we found a few more peaceful spots and overall... More

Came by in the morning and it was fairly empty so was really peaceful. Strolled around the grounds to look the multitude of buildings on the grounds. We came by the South gate and circled around passing a few temples, the treasure museum and the ancient looking Rokujireisando ceremony hall. Then we came around the entrance to the five tiered... We went to the temple for the afternoon and it was so beautiful! We wandered through the temple looking at all the buildings and the ponds. Definitely worth visiting!

Nice to walk around get a sense of the culture and on occasion you might catch a traditional wedding ceremony.

I went to Shitennoji temple on a whim. I didnt have anything to do so why not. Walking around leisurely took less than 1 hour as well and the access was pretty easy - just follow the tourists and youll be fine. Unfortunately when I went, the temple was underconstruction and wont be finished until 2022 - As for tourists,... More

Since it is the first Buddhist Temple in Japan, my mind felt very calm there, and I wanted to stay for a while for prayer and taking some photos

Wow! Another history experience. I only can imagine in those days...the temple gods were very impressive and POWERFUL...but yet you feel serenity.. couldn't take pictures, so i had to buy postcards...to capture the memories..

On my research I saw that it's a temple closest to where I was staying so I decided to visit. It really wasn't close at all so I ended up walking longer than I intended. It's not like the temples in Kyoto where you'll find a lot of tourists. It kinda felt like I shouldn't really be there taking pictures... More

Nice place to visit for some peaceful reflection of your inner-zen past life. Not really one of your main tourist attraction, which makes it an ideal place to relax and have some quite time from the usual touristy places in the city.
