Solid exhibits but no English descriptions at all. The audio guide is free and better than average for Japan (American ish accented female voice, slightly conversational delivery but slow speaking and hung up on the obvious/ formalities: stuff like “chapter 7. Industrializing coin production. In 17xx somebody was hired from Ireland to industrialize coin minting” .).

Osaka Mint Bureau is a very special place for cherry blossom viewing as its 'cherry blossom passage' is open to public for one week only every year. The viewing period is in mid-April, but the exact period is announced only in early or mid-March. This year the viewing period was 16-22 April, and we were there on the first day. As expected, there was a big crowd. Several teams from newspapers and television stations were there to report the event. The 560-meter long passage is surrounded by 350 trees of 130 varieties. We never realized that there are so many varieties of cherry blossoms. Most of the cherry blossoms in the Bureau are the late-blooming species which have various shapes, colors (mostly pink or red) and number of petals. The most abundant ordinary cherry blossom, Somei Yoshino, has five petals. However, it is very common for the late-blooming cherry blossoms to have 40-50 petals. Visitors enter the passage from the South Gate and exit through the North Gate (one-way traffic). The cherry blossoms are illuminated by spot-lights at night. So it is a good idea to come in the late afternoon. After going through the passage, one can rest, relax and have meals (there are many food stalls outside the Bureau) by the Okawa River bank, and then go through the passage again after the lights are on. If you happen to be in the Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe region during the cherry blossom viewing week, you should try to go there to enjoy the cherry blossoms. By the way, except for the cherry blossom viewing week, the Mint Museum is open to public from Monday to Friday.

Despite every website saying the walk would only be open from the 11th to 17th April, my wife and I plus a lot of others enjoyed an amazing walk through the beautiful Sakura TODAY For what ever reason someone has decided to allow visitors early. Go and enjoy now

If you are around Osaka during the opening of the Japan Mint, it is an experience not to be missed. The Mint opens its path along the water, planted with hundreds of cherry trees. The blossoms are as spectacular as the huge crowds flocking there (mainly locals). From the bridge near the Tenmabashi Station (Tanimachi subway line) to the Mint, there are tens of stands selling mainly typical foods. Inside the Mint, there is a one-way system in place, because of the huge number of people to control. The path is also opened at night, and of course, is illuminated. There are endless photo opportunities, and this is apparently the game everyone is playing. It's all done in a nice atmosphere though.
The only problem is that the path is only opened to the public once a year and the date only revealed a month before, as it depends on the blossom timing, so difficult to plan from abroad. See the Mint website for more information (http://www.mint.go.jp/eng/index.html).

Arriving 1st day in Osaka on the 14 April 2017, my wife thought that we missed the Sakura Season (cherry blossom) as "sakura" opened earlier this year around end of March 2017 for Osaka and Kyoto. Surprisingly, it was still ongoing at this sightseeing spot. Initially, we thought of going to Osaka Castle's park, but was recommended to visit this place instead by the hotel staff. A big thank you to them. All I can say is that it was wonderful to be able to see personally ourselves such a unique sight of various types of Sakura. We believe the Japanese really treats this seasonal bloom seriously and considers it a national Spring celebration. It was like a mini fun fair consisting of childhood games and local food stalls along the river/canal bank near this Japan Mint's area. The sakura sight was just mind-blowing. Though crowded, we took our time to walk through this 350m refreshing Sakura path with ease. We didn't even remember how many pictures we took for this short relaxing walk. We spent a whole afternoon until evening just on this spot, with no regrets. Definitely will visit again if we get a chance in the future and would highly recommend you all visiting Osaka during this period to do the same.

We felt lucky to be in Osaka during the one week of the year when the Mint Museum cherry blossom viewing garden is open to the public.
It seems that the entire population of Japan felt the same and needed to see these blossoms on the same Friday as we did. While the trees were lovely and beautiful (although there were lots of petals on the ground already) the uninterrupted blaring announcements in at least 3 languages about the rules of the garden, the presence of guards with bull horns, and the general overcrowding and herding of people made the total experience unpleasant.
The crowds were truly awful and the logistics were terrible. It didn’t help that the loop bus put us down at the exit, requiring an interminable trek along the entire length of the food stalls, exposed all the while to the loudspeakers, to reach the entrance to the cherry garden path.. By the time we started, we had been benumbed to a mindless, shuffling state, not unlike the marching armies of workers in Metropolis – hardly a fit mindset to appreciate sakura. Then, once you are in the crowds and marching along the path there is no exit - you must keep going to the end. (Be sure to use the toilets at the beginning of the circuit.)
Although there were very interesting cherry trees to be seen, it was overall the worst cherry blossom viewing experience we have ever had.

Mint Museum tells the history and establishment of Japan Mint, which marks the begin of modernization of Japan in its history. Most explanation and description in this museum are in Japanese, a big setback for foreign visitors who don't understand Japanese.

We visited there the last day of event. Japan mint or sakura mint has hundred of sakura tree that visiters can enjoy at day and night. Personally I think sakura during day time is more beautiful than at night. Still a great experience.
There are many local shops with street foods and games. Crowded but fun. It is not a tourist destination. Very few tourist or foreigners there

I had a good time here, but since I came during cherry blossom season, there were sooooooo many tourists. If you want to avoid the crowds then maybe give it a miss.

this is the best Sakura viewing spot i've been to in my lastest Japan Sakura trip.
they have all kinds of Sakura, most of them are unlikely to see in most of the parks, and they were so pretty.
There were even Sakura with green color.
But it's best not to go on weekend as it get so crowded that all you can do is go with the flow of people.

Hello.. What time Osaka mint bureau open during cherry blossom festival?
Written 3 February 2020
Hi, I will be visiting Osaka at the middle of March and I don't think I will be able to catch the cherry blossom season, but will it be worth it to still pay Zohei Museum (Mint Museum)'s garden a visit? As I know the entrance is free during cherry blossom season for a week, but how about prior to the cherry blossom season, is there any entrance fees? Note, I am not so interested with the Museum itself.

Guide tour is held at the Museum. Mainly inside of the museum, So garden walk during the season of Cherry blossom walk thru is not expected.

There is 3km from JR Osaka station to the destination.
Alternative plane is use Tanimachi-subway from Higashi-umeda to Higashi-morimachi, and the walk 15 min.
Near by you can see Osaka-jou castle.

Hello :) I was wondering what is it like during December also does it open during December 25? Is there an entrance fee?
Written 17 August 2016
From memory it was free.
The shop sold many interesting items.
The walk along to the museum was picturesque and interesting.
You could take pics on the foyer, lovely clock.
It is closed on public holidays in Japan.
I would phone up because I had to go twice.
The metro station is a fair distance away.
The best time to visit would be March when the Trees are in full bloom.
Opposite side of the river very interesting museum and park.

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to go and see some blossom at the moment or is it only open for the one week? If so is there an entrance fee? Thanks
Written 18 March 2016
Cherry blossom is vary by the climate. Therefore, it is very hard to meet to Cherry blossom timing. Even your schedule is not meet the blossom timing, you have chance to see the blossom in other area, Nara, Kyoto, Kobe etc.

Hello, any of you went for the mint factory tour? It says in the website that there's only Japanese guided tours. Unfortunately we can only understand English. I would like to ask around here if any of you have experience with that? Or do they provide English audios?
Written 24 January 2016
Only video explanation just before guide tour is held by foreign languages.

You can take JR line to Osaka main station. And then transfer to the subway Tanimachi line (the station is not Osaka, but Higashi-Umeda). Then get off at Minami-Morimachi and walk about 15 minutes. This is the easiest way.
