Visited twice while in Kyōto. Great outdoor hot tub with views of the mountains and cherry blossoms. Very clean. Easy access from Kurama station. Pleasant 10 minute uphill stroll along rural atmospheric street or there is a minibus that meets the train. Restaurant and drinks vending machine available on site. My only suggestion is don't bother with the inside bath... More

This was my second time going up to kurama specifically for its Onsen and view. For locals with their own transport, its much easier to drive up. For us, we took a few trains from Kyoto station. There are 3 packages you can choose from. 1) to stay the night, hence indoor & outdoor onsen, bathrobe (yukata), towel, slippers, will... More

It was cool weather in April and Ienjoyed the hot bath at the outdoor. The water was not clean as I expected. I have not seen anyone sreved in the onsen. Bring your own towel and locker is free, but you need 100Yen coin to operate it. You can not do much , but you put yourself in the hot... More

After turbo sight seeing in Tokyo and Kyoto, Kurama an overdue calm. Kurama Onsen a wonderful Japanese style rykoyan with the most welcoming and friendly staff. Breakfast is delicious but the dinners in the rooms are simply sublime. Served by the most friendly team of people who can't do enough for you. Rooms by the river, so you fall asleep... More

Well we went to a traditional Japanese onsen... it was a last minute decision as we met up with a fellow traveller who wanted to go there after visiting fushimi inari. Still an hour out of Kyoto. The good thing is even though it was a spur of the moment decision for us it is totally doable... they rent towels... More

We came here looking for a traditional onsen experience in Japan since it was the most convenient option near Kyoto (although it still requires an hour commute). Kurama is a charming town with a popular hiking trail. We skipped the hike due to limited time and headed straight for the onsen. There are separate outdoor facilities for men and women.... More

If you're looking for an Onsen experience filled with simplicity and perfection then make no mistake this is the place to be. I caught two trains climbed a mountain and back down, walked the length of a town to be here and I'd do it all again in a heart beat. The kind of peace I'd found only in one... More

We spent just over an hour hiking from Kibune to Kurama and then decided to visit Kurama Onsen. We opted for the 1000 yen option of just using the outside pool. A lovely view of the mountain. And for a Sunday with great weather surprisingly few people at the onsen!

Really lovely place. I had better than expected experience here. The room was nice. The view was spectacular. The pool was great. The host, and the staff are very warm, and welcoming. For the price that I paid, I would have stay an extra night. Will definitely back next time I'm in town.
