Sanzen-in temple is located at Ohara area, which is about an hour bus ride from Kyoto city. Do take note that there are two no.17 bus services from the Kyoto Station bus stop. Make sure you take the correct one. The way leading to the temple was beautiful. We spent quite some time enjoying the surroundings before visiting the temple.

Compared to some of the other tourist hot spots in Kyoto, I've found Sanzen-in temple in Ohara much more relaxing and enjoyable. People are just taking their time strolling along the tree-lined paths leading to various sights accompanied by the beautiful autumn colors. Shops selling produce very topical of the Ohara area. No loud noise made by the crowd, only... More

The temple is so famous that a lot of shops and restaurants are on the way to the temple from the bus stop. The garden was beautiful with red leaves. The treasure museum was near the exit of the temple. I was impressed of replication of wall painting.

You need some effort to visit Sanzen-in Temple as is around 1 hour away from the city of Kyoto. The garden is full of green and I feel so peaceful when I was walking around….I was kidding with my friends whenever you are pissed off, you should come over here then very quickly you will be cooled down and feel... This temple is famous for its autumn foliage, hydrangea garden and its buddha's images. The temple's garden Yusei-en is stunning.

Sanzen-in is located near Kyoto, about an hour and a 20 minutes walk away from the train station, in the mountains, nexto a small place called Ohara. It is a large temple complex, spread out through a big estate, stretching out through coniferous woods. The temple is staffed by monks. One can enter almost all buildings, except of course the... Good temple, always calm, will find something different at each time you visit. Have many shops and restaurants, good place to have lunch there.

This temple is a little out of the way - a train to the Mt Hiei cable car station and then a walk to the main road and the bus to the terminus, and then a walk, but it is worth it, you walk up a twisting path through houses and shops to a superb temple with just wonderful gardens... More

So I have a theory about why there's such great moss here. The monks built this great temple up in the hills above Ohara, but discovered what with the damp and the rain, everything got all covered with moss. No matter what they did, it just kept growing. Then, one day, some clever monk said to the others, "Hey, this... More
