About
The most famous neighborhood in Kyoto is also known as the Geisha district. It is here, among the teahouses and private clubs that you can catch a glimpse of a geisha in full dress including white makeup.

Really cool looking streets that brings you back to the olden days. However, its a little crowded when we went there and pretty challenging to take a beautiful shot of the streets due to the crowd and traffic. Overall, it’ll be cool if you have...More

We stayed in Gion for our week long trip to Kyoto. It was a perfect location with charming wooden buildings and very near the station and centre of Kyoto. You can see Geishas walking between appointments which was fascinating. A lovely area.

Gion was probably the biggest disappointment during our visit to Kyoto. The area was overwhelmed with tourist and made it hard to visit any shops or restaurants. We didn’t stay in the area very long because it was so busy. Prime example of over-tourism.

Gion, a must see in Kyoto. Many buildings are being redecorated, so the overall atmosphere is a bit spoiled. Nice to see many girls wearing traditional kimonos and, if you are lucky, you can meet a real geisha.

It seems like the only true attractant to this area are the Geisha's. And it feels like chasing a groundhog or something trying to figure out where and when one may be out and about. I did see other people walking around in traditional Japanese...More

Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko"
in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and
entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners,
Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with
gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion
