They have a dolphin show, which is neat, and 2 species of sea lions, but the rest of the aquarium is smallish in nature. What makes up for that are the different displays of fish and HUGE salamanders from the local area that one normally does not see elsewhere. And there is a massive central aquarium tank which displays hundreds... More

Entrance fee 1500 yen for adult, 600 for those between 3 to 6. Below 3 is free. There is 3 dolphin show per day. This building consider of 2 story and one open area for dolphin show which only 15 minutes. It is a nice museum for 2 hours. It also contain some local specie which unlikely to be found... More

It's a small aquarium. You pay about 20 usd for entrance. There is a dolphin show and weird sea creatures I've never seen in the states. Clean and people are friendly.

It's amazing. Kyoto is far from sea.You thought that the aquarium shows only lives of rivers and lakes. Mostly it's true. But you maybe surprised that they hold dolphin show in the aquarium. The aquarium itself is not so large,Dolphin pool also small. But you can see live shows of dolphins. It's not but.

Being very near Kyoto Central Station, my family and I decided to visit this aquarium on our last day. The entry fee was reasonable; 1,500 yen for high school & university students and almost 2,000 yen for adults. The exhibits included giant salamanders, penguins, small sharks, crustaceans, jellyfish, and many other. The name of each animal was clearly shown and... More

We arrived in Kyoto initially wanting to go to the temples but we thought we 2 teenagers and their younger brother so we decided to go to the aquarium instead and the fact it is after lunch already. It was better than I expected. 9 hall from fishes to seal, jelly fish to dolphins. The main aquarium glass wall was... More

Not the best aquarium I have ever seen but certainly worth a visit if you have a spare half day in Kyoto. Aquariums these days are spectacular places with the use of glass and lighting to give you very clear view of the exhibits. We certainly enjoyed our visit but there was no exhibit that was totally different to anything... More

I visited here recently and enjoyed it a lot. If you don't like trained dolphins and seals maybe don't go but there are many other great things to see. Highlights were the penguins, the jelly fish and the saltwater display. Some displays were a little small for the fish and I would hope they will correct this with time. Everything... More

You can spend half day or 2-3hours with your family there. There are 9 zones, you can see dolphin, seals, African penguins, giant salamander, etc. Most of the visitors are locals and it closes to Umekoji park. Kids may enjoy touring around. :) Remarks. You can store your belongings in the locker.

It was good design inside and outside. I really don't need dolphin show for me. It was just okay. Other things are everything good!

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
