About
"GEAR” is the first non-verbal performance originated in Japan. The world-class performers of mime, breakin', magic trick, and juggle presents a lovely story of a toy named “Doll” transforming a human girl through the various communications with an android named “Roboroid.”This performance is set without any “words,” just being compounded with the action, dance, expression, music, and images satisfying all the senses. And also, this performance is filled with the exciting materials. Stage setting gives an illusion loosing the way in the factory, or feeling like blown off by a gust of wind. And the contemporary technologies like the projection mapping, sparkling full colored LED dresses, and specially customized laser beams with 16million colors present everyone inexperienced impressions. Since started in the April 2012, this performance had a long run of 3000 times and 250,000 audiences.

Neighbourhood: Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.

This was such an amazing show and I would recommend to anyone planning a visit to the Kyoto area. Our kids are 8,6,4, and 1 years old and they all loved it! My husband and I laughed and cried as well. The unique characters-each with a different entertaining ability, interesting stage/ sound/light effects, and crowd interaction made it a unique theater experience!

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this show and was pleasantly surprised by the creativity and emotional depth portrayed by the actors. Not to mention the very creative set design. The show is unlike anything I've seen before and I would happily see it again.
Highly recommend it!

Wow! It's a remarkable feat when you can create original content, unlike anything before, and that's exactly what GEAR has accomplished. I felt transported to another world entirely, one where words didn't need to exist in order to feel every emotion. Everything was perfectly executed from the extraordinary lighting and staging design to the costuming, storytelling, and acting. My husband and I would see this show again in a heartbeat! Thank you GEAR for an evening we won't forget and for creating a show that is truly magical.

It was way better than what I had anticipated!
You get completely absorbed in this amazing fantasy themed world. The amount of emotions enacted by robots is both cute and heartfelt, and you wish to kind of remain with them forever. The actors are amazingly skilled, not only in acting, but in their individual talent as well which came as a surprise! It was a truly magical and mesmerizing experience, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone!

Yoko, front of house staff, was so nice and accommodating to me and my husband when we were looking for a show in Kyoto after dinner. I had emailed GEAR in the morning to see if there was any availability for 2 tickets in the evening, and I received an email within an hour! I was not expecting a reply so quickly, and I was pleasantly surprised that there were 2 tickets available from Yoko. When my husband and I arrived to the theater, Yoko was so sweet with us and provided two seats as she promised in her email. In fact, the seats were awesome and we had a great view. Actually, all seats would be a good seat since it's a smaller theater.
Now, to the show...AWESOME! As many reviewers comment, no need to understand Japanese to enjoy this show. The cast is 5 people who shows us their talent while telling a very moving story. At the end of the show, my husband and I were impressed by the show and spent the rest of the night interpreting different parts of the show over drinks. This is kid-friendly, but my husband and I enjoyed it very much and would see it again when we are in Kyoto (or if they ever tour in the States!).

Lovely change of pace from temple viewing! Lovely evening with unique story with talented people. As mentioned we went to an evening showing but I believe they do a day showing if you'd rather, either way I'd recommended going lovely breathe of fresh air. I don't want to write too much as I don't want to ruin the experience.

I have a question for you .Have you ever been to GEAR ? Why not ! If I were you I would . Actually I didn't want to tell this to anyone ,but I have to say . GEAR is an interactive performance plus a non-verbal stage .l felt like taking part in this performance when l saw it . Stage effects and skilled artists are sooooo nice . You know this stage is not shrine , not temple , not samurai , not ninja , but excellent show ! I think GEAR is the best way to spend night time here in kyoto . I wish seats could be available .

If visiting Kyoto this is a must see show. Fun, entertaining and moving. Performers are extremely talented and show direction and production are spot on. Appropriate for all ages and all nationalities. Do yourself a favour and go and see this show. It is a long running show for a reason.

Hello! Does the script or storyline for Gear change periodically? I really enjoyed it the last time, but I am curious how often the play is changed?
Thank you for your inquiry and comment.
The story remains the same. But there are 4500 cast combinations.
The skill is different, and there is a slight change in production every day.So the stage can be enjoyed no matter how many times you see it.

Hi. What time does the show end?
Thank you for your message.
The show is scheduled to run for about 90 minutes. There are no breaks during it and so we ask that customers visit the bathroom before it begins.
