My family and I booked two tours with Chris Rowthorn’s company during an eight-night stay in Kyoto. We came to Kyoto to see the fall colors, observe the architecture, and to simply experience Japan as much as one can in eight short nights. I read about Chris Rowthorn’s company in a travel book and decided to book two tours: Kyoto... More

Second time visiting Japan and second time touring with Chris' team in Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo. I've written a review previously (August 2015) and can only reiterate that these experiences are about learning, having fun and meeting some really nice friends. It's far better than just looking at something, taking a photo and moving on to the next thing. He... More

We have just returned from our night tour of the Gion district with Kana Hattori. We were so impressed by her professionalism, knowledge, helpfulness and cheerful disposition we wanted to write a glowing review to thank her personally. She was happy to answer all of our questions (lots!) without hesitation and her english was very good (which we assumed would... More

We booked four tours with Chris Rowthorn and also used his trip planning service. I can honestly say it was the best investment we made in our trip to Japan! They found the perfect hotel for us in Kyoto, complete with a playground nearby and some marvelous neighbourhood restaurants. We also booked three half-day tours and the evening tour of... More

This tour was totally made by our guide Kana Hattori. She was brilliant. We were waiting for her at the Takashimaya dept store and there she was in traditional kimono and the little twist of the perfect green hat and beautiful velvet shawl. Quite honestly we were proud to be escorted by somebody looking quite this good. The tour lasted... More

Me and my mom took three tours with Kazue (Arashiyama, Nara, Kurama to Kibune). Kazue was an amazing guide and tailored the tours to our interests. She discussed native plants to Japan and pointed them out as we came across them (my mom loves gardening and Japanese plants). She was extremely accommodating to my vegan diet, and made reservations at... More

Hi I would like to ask if you can accommodate me and and my husband with the tour below. We'll bday in Shinjuku and this will be this December. Appreciate if you could reply with your email so we could talk about the rates

You will first visit the Tokyo Tower, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo from the observation platform. Next is the Meiji Shrine, the finest example of Japanese shrine architecture. Then driving through the Akasaka Guest House. The Akasaka Guest House is a magnificent western-style palace built in the baroque style. Next drive by the Japanese Capitol, dominated by a massive tower and visit the Imperial Palace East Garden. Here you can enjoy a pleasant walk through the garden as a place of historical interest and scenic beauty. We drive through the shopping district of Ginza. You will enjoy Japanese style lunch (only included in the tour if lunch option is selected at time of booking). We continue to Hamarikyu garden which is a typical Daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) garden in the Edo period with a tidal pond. Next enjoy a 30 minutes boat ride on the Sumida River. After the cruise, you have a chance to see Ninja and Samurai performances at the pier. At the end of tour, visiting the Asakusa Kannon Temple and walking down the brightly lit Nakamise shopping street, then we drive through Kappabashi area where restaurant supplies and wax food samples are sold, and Ueno and Akihabara.
