It’s not to much of a climb up to this Pagoda and with lots to see close by , worth the effort. It was very interesting looking at how the joints fit together. The strength of this type of design and its ability to withstand...More

One of my favourite spots in Kyoto is the old preserved streets in the Higashiyama district. The street of Sannen-zaka leads up to the Hokanjio Temple with its Yasaka-no-To Pagoda that rises up in the horizon. Came here early in the morning and had a...More

It is extremely crowded in this area of Gion and we were also disappointed with the few number of "hole in the wall" restaurants in this area. After we saw the temple, we wanted to grab a light dinner and a drink, but almost all...More

If you go during high season, it's hard to fully appreciate this iconic view of Kyoto because of the hordes of tourists walking around. Try and come back during low season and you will have the gorgeous view to yourself.

Remember to watch out the wooden pagoda in Gion area when you travel to that spot. It was only a wooden pagoda which would be more attractive during sunset hours.

When we walked down Ninenzaka area, we found a pagoda that stood out amidst the old houses of this area. The pagoda though a bit lonely but looked well from a distance. Remember to watch out for this spot when you pass by this region

We were walking the streets between Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-Dera. Lots of tourist shops and such. We weren't really paying attention, and this pagoda suddenly sprang into view. Breathtaking. The structure itself isn't extraordinary, but it seems so in the context of its environs. This...More

This pagoda stands alone with no temple around it, but narrow streets of the Ninenzaka area with their old-fashioned houses. As such it is not that remarkable, but if you walk through this area it is a nice extra, reminding you this is not any...More
