We walked to Shinnyodo Temple from Ginkakuji using Google Map. It was a 15~20 minute walk and led us to the secluded back entrance stairway up to Shinnyodo Temple area. I thought we got lost and had to ask local people nearby. The back entrance...More

We visited Shinnyodo Temple as a stop-gap before going for the Eikando night tour. What an expected find! The colours were the most intent and beautiful of all the places we visited during the day! And there was no entrance fee to pay, and it...More

This is one of our top five choice to see the Fall foilage, if you miss this temple during leaves turn red Season, you let the big one get away, not a big area temple, one hour of time is all you need, maybe most...More

This requires a lot of effort to find, being off the beaten track. Fabulous autumn foliage with the pagoda and main hall artfully located to bring out the foliage. Worth the long trek up the hill.

Although I often passed by near Shinnyodo, it was my first time to get into its premises. I thought mistakenly that the entrance fee is required, but it was free. There is only few tourists. I loved the serenity of this temple. Maybe I will...More

Shinnyodo is a treat - almost hidden at the top of a hill in a residential neighborhood. We came looking for autumn color in this year (2015) of muted shades of red and orange. We found good color along with very few people and no...More

Shinnyodo Temple is a hidden gem. It's known for its beautiful maple trees and tranquility. Maple leaves in red and yellow is the perfect backdrop of this serene temple. It is less commercial than Kinkaku Temple or Kiyomizu-dera. Fall is the best season to catch...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its

bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
