It is a nice shrine to visit especially during the night when the place is well lit up. During the day, u cant miss this shrine as the bright orangy red colour will attract you to the place. The main gate is quite spectacular and...More

If I were reviewing this for just the day time, I'd say it was pretty average. A beautiful shrine in Gion, very busy, with some street food stalls However! At night, the shrine is spectacular. Luckily my apartment was on the same street, so I...More

We stumbled at this shrine on our way to Gion and what an amazing surprise. It's massive with loads little beautiful praying spots where people actually go to pray. There were nice selection of food right by the entrance.

Very nice place I would like to recommend visiting especially during the late evening and night when all the lanterns are lighted. So beautiful, so romantic!

Super busy during golden week, the shrine is nice, although the best part is the park. I really liked the shallow muddy ponds, seeing the fish and turtles trying to crawl through the mud. Other than that, nothing special

The orange-colored shrine stood out brightly in Gion area particularly at noon when the sun shines on it. There were many food stalls around the site and many local people come here to spend hours to eat, drink and enjoy themselves underneath the beautiful cherry...More

a lovely shrine to visit, including nearby Maruyama Park and markets at the front of the shrine. Wonderful location close to Gion, and walking distance to Kyomizu temple. Bus stops right out front make it very easy to access.

Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko"
in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and
entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners,
Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with
gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion
