We stayed at a hotel nearby and wandered down to Meriken Park. The view of the water is beautiful. In the park are some nice pieces of art.

We were lucky enough to be in Kobe that night when there was a fireworks show that Japanese cities organize for all its citizens to watch during warm summer evenings. At about 7 in the evening people come in droves to the seaside park and find a spot to sit and wait for the show to start. There were stalls... More

Visited in September - way too hot to be walking around. Nothing to see, no actual park - it's currently being dug up.

I read about the Bon-Odori (盆踊り) dance festival on a website and decided to go. I was greatly surprised to see how popular and active it was. Every year I go to a Bon-Odori in different city around Japan. This one was, hands down, my favorite one so far. It had a much more of an international feel while keeping... More

This place is probably for couples or friends which want to chill out or talk over coffee looking at the ocean. I guess best time is just around the sunset

Maybe we missed most of it but there wasn't much to see. It was still nice to have a wander round though as it was so quiet.

Harbor land and Meriken Park all merge into one. There is information on the last earth quake here and what remains of pathways and lamps affected by the quake.

We have visited this tourist spot together with others nearby. There were a number of statues around and the place was good for strolling around and take pictures in good weather.

This is a huge green park, nice to have in a crowded Japanese city, but while it's a nice place to stretch your legs and relax, it's certainly not worth a visit if you have to travel to get there. Note that it's non-smoking. My husband was informed of this by a Japanese man, but only after he had finished... More

The history of the park is linked to the Ijinkan homes in Kitano. Many foreign diplomats lived in Kobe, and the area was popular with them, particularly American expats, and so the park became known as Meriken, a sort of contraction of "American." Now it is popular with young people on bikes and skateboards.
