It is a place with lake birds and ducks and pleasant gardens and bench to meditation. Is a invite to life reflection.

nice garden outside the building... I can't say there are many things to see inside but it was enough for us... it was good that there were benches for us to take a rest as it took us a while to walk to there under hot weather.

Well maintained government building with nice park to stroll around in the afternoon. Worth the visit for less than 1hour. Its free entry.

The outside of this building is neat, and it's interesting to see this kind of architecture in Japan. We didn't understand many of the exhibits because everything was in Japanese and I didn't find any English, or other language, translations.

The grounds and building are interesting and provided an enjoyable visit. The highlight for me was the room given over to an explanation of the issues between Japan and Russia over the northern islands of the east coast of Hokkaido. If you have half an hour to an hour free in Sapporo this is worth a visit.

Uses to be a government building, akarenga is turned into tourist spot and a museum. I visited during winter so the place is very romantic, covered with snow and ice. The inside is a museum about Sapporo government history. A nice building influenced by European style.

Only walking distance from Nakamuraya ryokan. It's located in front of the road 5min walk from the Ryokan. We took pic and enter the office for free and got stamp. Historical red bricks buildings with the snowy park, ensure morning and night pic taken.

The attraction here is the fact that this building and its pleasant grounds is out of place smack in the middle of Sapporo city. The red brick facade and the colonial architecture provide a contradiction of sorts - an old western-inspired building surrounded by sleek modern buildings in the middle of a Japanese city. Great for photos.

The Former Government Building is a good place to get history tidbits about Hokkaido and Sapporo. At the 2nd floor we found displays about territorial dispute against Russia (which is now resolved) and info on their former provincial governors.
