Great Museum, Can Be Really Crowded

Really enjoyed looking at the historical pieces. Toilets were not as clean as I wished. Definitely worth a visit.

Xian is all about learning about Chinese history and culture and this museum puts it all together for you in one place. With mind boggling antiquities to 5000 BC and very well labelled in English and well organised. Work your way through the time periods. Set a time limit - we did it in just under 2 hours, moving pretty... More

This is a must see museum. You should visit this museum before going off to see the Terracotta army at Lintong. There are terracotta warriors and horses here which you can see up close. There are many other artefacts and displays relating to the old dynasties which ruled China over the past many millennia. A well kept museum and one... More

Few of the Museums I've visited in China match western standards but this one comes very close. It has a wealth of objects pretty well displayed and tells the story of the 13 different Dynasties which used Xi'an as they base. If you like history it's a must see attraction to get an all round picture. The pottery is amazing... More

Housing a collection of artefacts dating back more than 3000 years, the Shaanxi Museum complements your visit to the Terracotta Army and helps you get to grips with the various dynasties that ruled China until the early 20th Century. Although galleries full of bits and pieces can sometimes lose their charm for the average tourist, there are many unique items... More

Because there is so much history, better to request for a tour guide near the entrance for explanation of the highlights in each dynasty. The museum is categorised according to the earliest Qin dynasty to the latest ones.
