The square itself is located right at the Drum Tower and Muslim Quarter, and the nearby Bell Tower also is visible from the square. Crowded in the evening during our visit, and the views are wonderful.
My review under Bell tower was meant to be for the Drum Tower. Its worth visiting this structure and museum of vintage furniture and drums related artifacts if you have a few days in Xian or are nearby. If you go make sure to time...More
We waited for dark to visit the tower. It was beautiful. Lots of shops around and places selling food. The drum and bell tower are a short walk apart and one is visible from the other.

Nice tower with a lot of cool drums. Take your time to read the captions by each drum as they relate to the seasons and are quite interesting. Stay for the show inside where the performers play local instruments and are in traditional costumes.
Just near the Muslim Quarter and the Bell Tower. Make sure you get there at night with all the lights on. Check the time for the performances and get there a little early to get a good spot. it's worth spending some time there.

The Drum Tower and the Bell Tower are large pagodas which are particularly spectacular at night. You can also visit the interiors which are sort of small museums. The Drum Tower has a drumming exhibitiion I think once a day (maybe twice). I don't think you'd need a guide, and they are quite close to each other. Also not a long walk from the city wall which is worth seeing. They are in the center of the old walled city area and are adjacent to the lively Muslim quarter. Definitely worth going to!
