We thought we were going to see a traditional cormorant fishing display, but ended up on a boat on a series of lakes going under fake bridges copied from around the world, seeing brightly lit copied temples and pagodas Then, for a few minutes we were subjected to a horrrible man doing a display, which was in dim light but... We had come to this area during the day for lunch, but this small lake (river) and two pagodas are not as noticeable. However, in night when excellent lighting comes on the water and silver-golden pagodas come out beautifully. A definite night time visiting place.

But don't expect to understand a word of commentary. It's only done in Chinese. It really won't matter because it's all so lovely.

The sun and moon pagodas are a must see in guilin. When you pay the entrance fee, you can climb all the way up in each of the pagodas. It's a long way up but it worths it. If you don't want to do the stairs, you can take the elevator. You can get your good fortune told at the... More

I felt like I was always waiting for something and it never quite delivered. The pagodas themselves were nice, but the boat ride was incredibly underwhelming. You put along watching the city streets pass you by without any particular grandeur. The boat is crowded and doesn't exactly offer the nicest views either as it sits pretty low in the water,... During the cruise, a hill called Diecai, are decorated by hundrends of lights. I wonder if the local government really care about the nature of guilin. The hill full of lights influence the normal life of animals in the hill. There are a lot of manmade and western style bridges on the river. No highlights in the whole cruise, and... More

I thought it was a good deal, it worth because it is the easiest way to enjoy the pagodas and landmarks lighted at night, some shows also on the way along the river. Beware that you will alight on a different pier/location, is not a full round. Tickets can be purchased anywhere.
