Easy desert trip in KSA. Take a 4x4 or SUV. Good camping spots all around and climbing out the crater can be tricky but still worth it.

From Jeddah, 4h30 drive with a normal car on norma roads of good quality leads you to the edge of the crater. Many villages are around with gas stations everywhere. So no need a 4x4 with reserves in fuel and water and a skilled driver. Once there head to the tiny white house on the left 750m away by a... More

We camped overnight and hiked down to the bottom in the morning. The road to the path down is being upgraded and the path down is in surprisingly good condition. It was a truly amazing sight. Remember to bring plenty of water and avoid the heat of the midday sun. The nearest help is still a long distance away

My husband and I did a self tour of the Crater while we were living in Jeddah. You can walk down into the centre of it. So immense to think that a meteorite could make such an impact. it would have been pretty awesome to have seen it happen.

This crater is 210 KMs away from the Taif. Crater is 2km in diameter and 250 meter deep. There is salt accumulation on the surface of centre of crater. View is very beautiful and breath taking. You can go by car to the crater up to the edge. We didn't go in the crater. There are huts made around the... More
