Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Vyborg Castle, I got those expectations and feelings that I wanted. First, I was lucky with the weather, although it was winter, but the sun came out and everything brightened up. Secondly, I was there on Monday, and the entrance to the castle tower itself was closed, as it is a day off on Mondays. But the entrance to the castle grounds is completely accessible. I practically walked alone in a small area. An ancient, stunning, massive, brutal castle. I really liked everything, of course most of all, that I am alone, and there are no crowds of tourists in the background of the photographs. Will go back there in the summer with friends to see it inside too.

I visited the Vybirg castle on a cold January morning. I disagree with the previous contributors that the visit is not worth it. I enjoyed it immensely. It is a terrific castle. I was basically alone during the visit. I.e. there was practically no one else during the climb to Olaf tower and the ehibit visit.Don't forget about the castle cat - Sir Filimon. It has even an Instagram page. I started following it after the visit.

City’s highlight and landmark. Located right next to the old town. Definitely worth a visit, but expect crowds in the summer months.

Quite interesting fortress build by a Swedish king in 1100 century in the border against Russian tzar empire. Restauration ongoing. The cafe was a joke serving just coffee, tea and water.

I'm sure this is a very nice castle, but I wouldn't know, because the lady in the ticket booth wouldn't let me in! I only had a 100 ruble note on me, but she demanded exactly a 10 ruble note, which is the entry price. As some russians unfortunately do, she started to ignore me when it became clear I couldn't pay the exact entry price. I begged and said I could pay 50 rubles to get in, to which she replied something in Russian with an irritated tone, accompanied by a waving hand gesture towards the exit, basically saying "get out of here". Pretty much the only reason I stopped in Vyborg on my way to St. Petersburg, and I wasn't able to see it. Disappointed!

This castle is a symbol of Vyborg (viipuri). It's gorgeous and magnificent. It stands on the water and guards the city. It's the most beautiful and must important landmark. And... It's in EXTREMELY POOR CONDITION!!! It's a shame the city management does nothing to change that. The city in general is in poor condition. I give five stars to its historic meaning and one star to the city for poor attitude.

The castle was my main reason to visit Vyborg on a day trip from St. Petersburg.
The castle looks amazing from the outside, but the experience inside was very disappointing.
I had to pay a steep 700 R (same price as for the Eremitage) and it turned out that the ticket was only for the small museum (4 rooms, of which only one had some english explanations).
Climbing to the top of the tower was not included and tickets were not available, although i saw people on top of the tower. Staff could not explain me how to access the tower due to lack of english language skills.

We had so much fun climbing the castle! Gorgeous view from the top of it!!
It is a must while you are in Vyborg.
Old town is great too, needs a lot of reconstruction though.

It is a tower that you can climb up and see the view of it. The view at the top is very nice to look at and is great for pictures.
