About
Street Art Museum is situated on the acting Laminated Plastics factory in the East of Saint Petersburg. Unification of industrial post-soviet ethics, the nerve of real life and young street art is the main thesis of the project. Allocated on the acting factory far from historical center and the main arteries of the cultural life, the Museum has become an attractive spot for an active public during last two summer seasons since 2014. The territory of the Museum is divided into two separate zones - permanent exposition on the factory territory and open public space - the venue for temporary exhibitions and large-scale events. The factory space hidden from public eye is where the permanent exposition of wall paintings or "murals" made by contemporary artists is. Now it has more than 20 art works of modern street artists such as P183, Tima Radya, Kirill Kto, Nikita Nomerz, Escif and many others. Significant amount of murals is situated inside working factory shops.

Street art museum seemed like an oxymoron to me and it is quite an interesting idea, apparently one of two such places in the world. The museum consists of a permanent collection of artworks which adorn various parts of what is a working factory, which street artists have been invited to contribute to. There are also outdoor and indoor spaces for temporary exhibitions, the latter of which is much like many contemporary art exhibition spaces I've seen. The whole place seems to question the distinctions between fine art, street art and graffiti.

As it exists in a working factory, the permanent collection is only accessible at the weekend and only as part of a tour, the English tour is every Sunday. There is lot to see here, there's also a nice cafe.

It is kind of in the middle of nowhere and there is really nothing nearby except a small petrol station. While it's a little bit of a trek to get to, it is definitively worth it.

It took us a while to find the museum, but the walk was well worth it. The variety of street art in the old factory buildings was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Luckily we chose a really sunny day to visit, so could also sit outside admiring the large works of art on some of the outside walls. The guide leaflet was only available in Russian, but the exhibits did have descriptions in English too, which we found helpful. Loved the atmosphere of the old buildings in which the museum is housed.

This is so worth the trip out to see it. A tour (in Russian, but you can book one in English) takes 1.5 hours - around and inside a working industrial complex. On walls, rusted columns, smoke stacks and pillars are a multitude of very different works. Some will appeal to you more than others, and some you need a translation for to fully appreciate (I think - so use Google Translate scan feature if in doubt!). The entrance - a huge simulation of the Winter Palace is a joy, and the works, as a whole, are so interesting.

Traveller Tips:

1) If you are not going in summer, you REALLY need to email for tour times - otherwise the place is shut. info@streetartmuseum.ru
2) You must take your passport as this is an industrial, secured area
3) The Google Maps location of this place is correct. Use their Directions feature to get out there via mini-buses. You need to hail the buses and tell them when you are getting off (I have no Russian - it doesn't matter. Russian bus drivers are awesome. :)

We arranged a tour for 9 AM on a Saturday. The museum is a 20-25 minute Uber ride from the center of the city. We arrived on time and the museum was closed. We stood in the cold for 10 minutes and then tried to reach the person at the museum who had arranged the tour. After waiting 30 minutes we gave up and took another Uber back to our hotel. At 10 we received an email saying they were sorry about what happened, but they had been very busy with a lot of email and hadn't sent their standard confirmation and took us off the schedule. Be careful!

Looking at previous reviews.Did we go somewhere else?? It was alot of money to pay to see a couple of murals and lame exhibits supposedly about migration issues. Nothing notable rather amateurish with no depth. A room dedicated to the"artists" which was basically all their paint stained clothing and brushes. Rubbish. We felt embarrassed because we had asked our Russian friends to take us there and it's miles from anywhere.they thought we were mad

My wife and I signed up for a street art tour in St Petersburg Russia which was arranged through the local Street Art Museum. We have done similar tours in Tel Aviv, Barcelona, Berlin, and New York. We appreciate the uncensored view that such tours provide. What could possibly go wrong? After all, we booked it through the local museum. They even insisted on receiving our passport numbers "because the exhibition is in the working factory area, so it's the rule to get there."

Our tour was scheduled for 9am on our last day in the city. We arrived on time after about a 20 minute Uber ride from our hotel to a fairly desolate area of the city. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. After about 15 minutes, we emailed the museum administrator with whom we had originally communicated. No response. It was pretty cold (can't blame them for that) so we had to get another Uber back into the city. We eventually did receive a reply. Here's how they responded (cut and pasted from their email to us): "We missed your appointment because of big e-mail traffic, and didn’t confirm the tour early, before the week of this date." Excuse me, you didn't show up because of too many emails last week??? That is exactly my idea of unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful. I suppose it's possible that we might have seen some interesting work. I guess we'll never know.

Fascinating project to bring contemporary art to a former factory now an exhibitions space for visitors to see. Nothing else like it. Visitors can wander around the disused buildings and enjoy the art installations. There are outside spaces too which display sculptures and more installations. The whole place is thought-provoking. We spent an afternoon there and loved it.
A cafe serves great burgers and drinks. Go.

I visited the new exhibition StreetArtia at the Street Art Museum this June. The museum is placed at the massive terrotory of the Laminated Plastics factory and represents the Soviet industrial past and the new Russian art culture. The new 5th exhibition is dedicated to the modern myths and contains works of Riccardo Murelly, Woozy, Dissenso Cognitivo, ZTwins, and many others. Although the road might take time, it's totally worth it. Besides the temporary summer exhibition, that opens every spring, the museum offers several permanent tours to the museum archives that has works of Russian street including artists Kirill Kto, Tima Radya, and P183. I took the tour called Tsekh X1 to the old factory building, where the artists practice during winter time. The tour was both exciting for the industrial abandoned building and the art works that communicate with its walls. One of my favorite characteristics of the museum is its territory and the opportunity to see street art not inside the alienating gallery walls, but within authentic urban aesthetics.

Although it is mentioned that museum is open, it is not. The museum is closed, guard said it might be open only in autumn. It is placed quite far from the city center, so better save your time.
