There are signs everywhere that this park is not well looked after. Also, we did not see any pets. Odd!

Restful parkland and palaces only a short distance away from the hubbub of central St Petersburg. Accessible on Metro line 5 (purple).

it is a good place to visit during a weekend or vacation trip. This is a good recreational area close to the center of the city.

Had been wanting to visit Yelagin for a long time. We came during the week. It appeared closed. No stalls open. The one restaurant we found had a menu but nothing available except for Napoleon cake and a coke!

Park was peaceful and managed to see some delightful squirrels that kindly asked us for food.

Apart from the squirrels, I wouldn’t bother visiting here again. Maybe my home country spoiled it. Too far to come and was just a park- maybe that reflects my own availability to parks so could not appreciate what it had to offer.

Glad I went, but wouldn’t again.

First of all at the entrance rent a bicycle to visit the island. it helps you to enjoy being there. Cars are not allowed to enter into island so there is not messy and noisy, you can relax there.

I like it very much! We took a stroll along the park and found lots of amazing well-preserved marble sculptures and historical buildings.

Yesterday, it was 29 degrees Celsius in St. Petersburg. The natives were collapsing from the heat. I was collapsing. I had planned a morning at the Political History Museum, but jettisoned that programme and headed out to Yelagin, about which I had heard a lot.

One important note, right at the moment: The pedestrian bridge on the south side of the island, connecting it to Krestovsky Island, is closed for repairs. Thus, if coming by metro, one should take the V5 line to Staraya Derevnya, and NOT Krestovsky Ostrov, as you cannot get to Yelagin Island from the latter. You turn right upon exiting the Staraya Derevnya metro station, and after about 15 minutes easy walking, passing lovely St. Petersburg's Buddhist temple on the way, you arrive at the pedestrian bridge leading to Yelagin Island.

This week is the tulip festival on the island, and so the island was full of, yes, tulips, in all shapes and colors. The walks are just soooooo relaxing. Thank god it's flat, or nearly. I just meandered and stopped at various benches to read a chapter of my book. There are kiosks selling drinks and snacks just about everywhere. There are lots of benches in the central, i.e., eastern, part of the island, while if one walks to the western end, benches are fewer, but so are people. Not that the place had any sense of crowdedness. Water everywhere. Green everywhere. Lovely flowering trees. There was snow here only a month ago. So spring is just now happening, and the trees have that magical quality between early foliage and full foliage.

I saw no tourists. It was all Russians, many mothers and children (there's a minizoo for kids), but also people of all ages rollerblading, skateboarding, biking (bikes and rollerblades available for renting), playing tennis and beach volleyball, sunbathing, and just plain relaxing. A real pleasure to be in this entirely Russian context.
