Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

At the end of May 2023, we took a walk through the Alexander Garden. The Alexander Garden was created according to the project of the president of the horticulture society, director of the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden E. L. Regel. The start of work on the construction of the garden was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Peter I. The garden was opened in 1874 by Emperor Alexander II, after whom it was named. Today it is also a landscaped space that is loved by both tourists and locals. There are many worthy sculptures of famous Russian people here.

A familiar sight when walking through the Alexander Garden is residents and guests of St. Petersburg, sitting on the grass for sunbathing. But on October 1 of last year, 2023, something went wrong... It seems like there is sun and sunbathing, but there is no one on the grass. Witchcraft...

In the middle of the historical centre of St. Petersburg, halfway between St. Isaac's and The Hermitage is this place of respite where the crowds and the bustle is less. It's amazing how a relatively small island of green can provide so much comfort!

Behind Admiralty Building this long and narrow green strip is bordered on either end by Palace Square/Hermitage and St Isaac Cathedral Museum. Surprisingly, street noise vanishes a few hundred feet into the spaced trees and carpet of grass. Perhaps those elements absorb noise. More likely, the mind recognizes that it’s not surrounded by concrete and crush of people. This green space is sort of a sculpture park, dozens of statues and fountains. Young children play on the central causeway, and there are paths running alongside and branch out diagonally from each sculpture or fountain. This is more of a sparse woodland park, and not a botanical garden. A good feature is that there's no cost for this relaxing respite.
When in any major city (Petersburg has more than five million denizens), I’m wary when isolated. Although I felt comfortable because chaperoned children ran about playing tag, as I sat on a bench near a fountain, someone walked toward me about a hundred feet away. Though he looked sharply to one side or the other, he came in a straight line in my direction. He held nothing, such as books to sell. He wasn’t even constantly texting, as was everyone else.☺ I listened to the inner voice and moved to a bench a few yards to my right. Sure enough, the guy changed course, never looking directly at me. I moved again, enjoying the antics of children playing, while standing next to a chaperone. The dark shadow went back to where he had been, near a streetside entrance to the park. Though I write mystery/suspense novels, I’m not paranoid. My point to this missive, however, is to always be alert to potential bad situations.

We paused here to catch our breath and relax while walking around Saint Petersburg. It was a drizzly, gray day but the park looked beautiful with its spring flowers. Lovely spot to rest for a bit on a bench for a break from sightseeing and get some fresh air.

This is a really nice park. Unfortunately, there are many tourists in the summertime. So if you're looking for a quiet place, this would not be it.

The park is great place to visit even when it is raining, it is clean, green, there is a children playground with benches made as swings for the parents (great idea!) with roofs, so you are protected against sun or a drizzle. You can buy refreshments there, have a break or feel romantic. It stretches from the Admirality building to the Isaacs cathedral, so you can walk in it from the Palace square to the cathedral easily.

These small, but pretty gardens, are alongside the Admiralty building and provide a peaceful oasis from the nearby, very busy streets. Walking through them was a very pleasant experience.
